Cuomo Announces Plans To Modify Gun Control Law To Exempt Film Industry

To Also Fix Error In Legislation Featuring Cops And High-Capacity Magazines





NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) � Just a month after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the strictest gun control law in the country, state officials plan to make some exemptions.

The law toughened restrictions on military-style rifles and high-capacity semiautomatic handguns, but those restrictions will be changed so those types of weapons can be used on the sets of television shows and movies being shot in New York.

�We spend a lot of money in the state bringing movie production here, post production here. So obviously we would want to facilitate that,� Cuomo said.

Cuomo said the prop firearms used in films would probably not be classified as an assault weapon.

�But people want certainty and there�s no reason not to make a change like that,� the governor added. �Apparently, they have blanks or they have phony magazines or something.�

Cuomo and lawmakers announced on Wednesday that they�ll also fix an error that made its way into the law.

The measure passed so quickly that as it reads now, police officers carrying high-capacity magazines could be in violation of the law, Diamond reported.

The need for a �clean-up� bill means the fight over the law may not be over after all.

An estimated 10,000 opponents of the new restrictions will descend on Albany Thursday as legislators consider additional amendments.

am i missing something? i thought a major issue was the impression upon "young" people of the proliferation and acceptability (use) of assault style weapons in movies and video games was a claim of the gun control minority that required regulation (elimination)?

The rest of us are go along and get along type people who know that there is give and take in life. The left only knows their way or the highway. they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. A lot of people have not figured that out yet.( If you give them an inch they will take a mile)Really quite simple,the NY gun law isn't about making the world safe for kids or ordinary citizens. It is about complete control of the citizenry for the PURPOSE of the gov't there.There is no doubt in my mind of the influence of violent programing on today's youth, the enertainment industry(Hollywood ) uses the first A rights to do that all the while disparaging the 2nd for everyone else. When people turn back to their christian values and upbringing with a firm understanding of our constitution and bill of rights. they will finally realize how and who are trying to manipulate them like a bunch of sheep.The wakeup call does not happen at the same time for all. Some want to be fleeced,poked in the butt and lead around a little longer( trading security for someone elses idea of safety). Moderate conservatives in the past who were old time democrats used to know the differences between right and wrong. Now days it's more a mentality of my team wins and if I get money all is good .(buying their votes). Vote with your pocket book ,vote with what you know is right and vote against what is wrong. Well, the film guys are pretending to shoot people. They are doing it with real or faux firearms. In the present anti second amendment climate, children are suspended or otherwise punished for even pointing a finger and yelling bang. Have you not heard of these cases? In a couple of instances, kids were even punished for drawing pictures of firearms, and in one case, possessing a paper cutout roughly in the shape of a gun. I think the film guys are doing just exactly what the kids are doing. Is that hard to understand? Maybe I'm off on a tangent ....happens now and again.

No, he's an idiot. He is absolutely covering a financial contributor. If he wasn't an idiot he wouldn't be backpedaling on all of his dumbass mistakes in it. The fact that he rammed a piece of schit legislation through in the middle of the night before anyone could even look at it or make corrections to the thing has more to do with his position. He abused his power/position by circumventing the system the way he did. Doesn't have a thing to do with him being a genius.

So I will have to respectfully disagree. He's an idiot. This piece of legislation would be exhibit "A". It was so poorly written it is a joke. An intelligent guy would have covered his financial contributors in the initial legislation.
