I just went down to the gun shop to fill out my paperwork for the Remington Model 7 SS in 260 that I bought off GunsAmerica. The owner of the shop told me that NJ NICS checks are running 17 days, WTF? On top of this in the great communist State of New Jersey you need a Firearms ID card to buy a rifle or shotgun that can take up to six months to get and you go through the same background check as a NICS. I can retire in 18 months, I can't wait to get out of this state!
One thing says its good. folks may be buying more guns now than ever. Maybe we have more gun owners than ever.

But then we all need to get a spine and follow Nancy Reagan RE gun control laws.. JUST SAY NO
get out and go to a good State
Damn, you guys trying to beat Ca. and Co. to the title of most F**ked up place to contribute (live).
Hey at least you don't have to pump your own gas!

Seriously thats's F'd up but ya only got 18 mo. more. Hang in there.
I thought they had to have the "instant" background check done in no more than 3 days or the sale went ahead???
I thought that was the case as well.
I was pissed about almost 10 minutes.
I would say leave NJ and come to CO, but that would have been last year's advice.
All he has to do is cross the Delaware River and he'll be fine
I thought CA was bad...
It is but the two states are competing to see who can be the most [bleep] up with gun laws. I used to work a little part time job at Ramsey Outdoor Stores gun dept. Had a gentleman come in with 3 handgun permits he literally just picked up from the Chief of Police in the same town and it was fun trying to explain to him that I had to do a NIC check before he could get his 3 Kimber 45's.
Finn, I can go over to Pa. but that's not the point, I live in Jersey, why should I have to go out of state! Anyone know about if the NJ NICS check doesn't come back after three days then the sale goes through? Thanks.
Sorry, I was just responding to your move request and attempting a little hearted humor. I'm sorry that I can't answer your 3 day waiting question. I worked at Ramsey Outdoor years ago and never ran into this situation. Knowing NJ though, I'm sure they have exempted themselves from their own laws.
Just to let you know, I called Ramsey Outdoor and spoke with someone in the gun dept for you. He said that the law is still in effect that they could sell you the gun, but they won't put themselves on the hook and wind up with issues with the NJSP.
There's a 10 day waiting period in California (State Law), in which to complete the NICS check... supposed to be that if there is no hold placed on sale, sale can be completed at that point...

Go to your states DOJ web site and check your states laws!

Sounds like it's similar to NJ then only ours is 3 days. I doubt you're likely to find a dealer here in NJ that will sell a gun without a NIC check though. It's the dealers call either way.
