question: "what are you praying for"

devil-horse answer: "i'm preying for something to eat."

Steelhead;
Frankly I had no idea they ever got that big.

Seeing as you're located in the south, is it possible it's one of those northern transplanted hybrids I was reading about?

Wait, that was whitetail....never mind. blush

All the best to you and yours this week Scott.

And here I thought the thread was about me....

I see them that size around here on occasion.

If you offer it a grasshopper, it'll clutch it in its front claw hooks and eat it like an ear of corn.

showed the picture to the old lady and she took off running.she has an irrational fear of preying mantis and can't even look at a picture of one. she'll be pissed for a while but it was worth it, needed a good laugh.

Are those saddle marks on it's side?
Posted By: Gus Re: Big SOB - 08/18/13
usually there are. due to camera angles, can't say there are in this instance or not?

THe more brown ones seem to show more rider markings than the green ones?

I had one as a pet when I was a kid, I use to feed it raw hamburger. I think I got it from a local county fair.

Mac me either. Weird cuz it seems like I used to see em a lot when I was a kid.

My older son & I were out for ice cream late last summer and saw his first... He is 10... But it got run over by a car! We were both dumbfounded at its size as it was flying around in swarms of prey around a streetlight.

Friggin cool creatures for sure! Judging by bug populations this year, we could really use more of em up here!

Screw that. Is it covered in baby spiders?
Posted By: ltppowell Re: Big SOB - 08/18/13
Yes. Use your control (+) to zoom in in. Pretty neat.

That appears to be the larger Chinese variety of mantis rather than our native Carolina type of mantis.

That bastid makes a .45 seem like not near enough pistol.

I once saw a big SOB like that grab a cicada and start eating his face. He was goin' to town.
Posted By: okok Re: Big SOB - 08/19/13
That is neat.

Had one a few years ago land on my knee at Collinsville flea market. It measured almost 6 1/2". He rested a while and took off.
