A few weeks ago I was driving by the Baxter County Courthouse and viewed the Nativity scene. I thought how lucky I was to live in a community that still remembered the "reason for the season."

Today I noticed the figures had been removed. I hope the person who initiated this complaint is proud of themselves.

Doesn't it seem ironic that God's name is invoked on our currency, the swearing in of government officials, the start of Congressional meetings, the ornamentation of federal buildings, etc., but then our elected officials turn around and legislate
these same things are not allowed by the people they represent.

Maybe next year our county judge and mayor should just write "Return to Sender" when the cease and desist letter is delivered. By the time the litigation begins, it would be time to take the Nativity scene down anyway. Each year, just repeat!

Ballot-counters in one wee town were quite disgruntled to find that somebody in town had cast a wrong vote. Put the whole town in a boiling swivet. Everybody agreed that it must be that nasty ol' Mr *&^%$#@, and everybody was relieved when Mr *&^%$#@ died.

But in the next election, somebody in town cast a wrong vote.

Just wait until they want to rename any place with Saint or San or Santo/a. All names with religious connotations.

I am not a Christian, but I am also not offended. Its what the majority of the people want, and does no harm. How hard is that?

The petition was to have the scene removed.

It's removed.

When they petition again next year, you can remove it again after New Year.

Another Chitcago retiree complainer?

My favorite part is that our city attorney (named in the letter) owned for a time the nativity scene and currently his wife maintains it. I had no idea there were so many Baxter County folks here at the fire.

Neither did I. Pretty cool that so many from this area hang out at the 'fire.

We've definitely got our share of transplants! It surprises a lot of outsiders how many libs we have here.

Yeah, Too many Libs here now. Reading the poll results in the Bulletin pertaining to Gun control,Government etc. is kind of depressing sometimes.

So if one petitions to have a nativity scene erected, what happens? Majority rule?

Do they allow other people of other religions to erect religious displays as well? If so then I don't see much room for anyone to complain minus the atheist I guess. But if they don't then they have an issue.

This is The United States of America, IN GOD WE TRUST, is all that matters here, the others can GTFO if they don't like it.

So what's the problem in looking over the scene I see little bit of everything, Christianity, paganism, secularism, Islam and Judaism.

Christian stuff is always offensive to someone, no matter what else surrounds it,

one complaint is usually all that it takes to get it put out of sight pronto.

The Nativity Scene is not displayed pursuant to the passage of any "law", Federal, State or County.

They lose...the display stays.

I have plans in place for next year. I will start with a menorah celebrating Hanukkah followed with a living nativity for Christmas then I have contacted two mosques to hold a beheading once an hour and stoning to death of women on the half hour. Should make almost everyone happy

Easy way to solve it would be to sell the courthouse lawn to someone with the condition that the city may take repossession of it at anytime it feels necessary.

Problem solved the taxpayers no longer own the property that the scene is erected upon.

How ironic that a DC law firm is demanding correction of an alleged constitutional violation in Arkansas.

I wonder if the firm sent a similar letter to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue demanding corrections of a series of constitutional violations.

The Sangre de Cristo mountain range always intrigued me, but thankfully no more. Something abut "red pillars/hills/mountains" just doesn't do anything.
