Neat pics ERL...

Never understood why the designers went down the "wood" route, but pretty neat to see them restored..

Don't know what that last one is, but I like it..

What pier was that top pic taken from.?

It's a one-off (to my knowledge) custom Studebaker. It's running a 390 w/FE heads and a really funky vintage, dual intake. I'll post a couple more pictures.

I love those old woodies.
My grandfather had a 48 Willis, and his friend, and business partner had a Chevy, both woodies.

Definitely a Ford, but I'm not sure of the year. I think 1940 is in the ball park. It was a pretty cool rig.

Once upon a time I had a 55 two door Ford wagon and woulda done about anything to have had a woodie.

This is my woody. [Linked Image]

I believe it is a 1939 Deluxe, the 1940 Standard use a very similar grill but the 1940 Deluxe had a slightly different grill. I doubt that a factory woodie would have been available in a Standard model.

Other thing I remember from back in the day - the Standard only had one tail light, the Deluxe had 2 tail lights. The 1939 model had teardrop tail lights, the 1940 model had chevron tail lights.

Yeah, I am old but some of my best memories are of my 40 2-door sedans I had in high school. Lots of room in the back seats in those cars.

Along about 59 -60 I built a real stoplight bandit, a purely stock looking 40 2-door sedan with a Chev 283 in it. I dumped the tailpipes just behind the axle so the dual exhaust was not obvious, ran fairly quiet mufflers on it so that when it was idling there was nothing to give it away from being anything but a stock 40 sedan with a flathead in it. It sure left a lot of surprised looks at the stoplight.

Google reliant town & country. It'll fix your drooling problem.

You are correct - it is a Ford Deluxe. also, I was able to zoom in on another picture that had a flyer in a side window. It appears to be a '39 based on the flyer, but it has round single tail lights.

This is why I like the 'Fire. If someone has a question, there's probably someone here who knows the answer. Thanks for the info.

Excellent.

Thanks for posting, ERL.

My buddy sid is a rat rod fanatic from the beginning, and even he was giving approving nods to the woodies we saw yesterday, except of course, for the ones on trailers and flatbeds.. that chit will never fly with him.

I like that red woodie.
Posted By: derby_dude Re: Woodies! - 06/24/14
I try to find a 1947 Chrysler La Baron woodie but could not find one which is not surprising as there are only two or three left in the world and they command $1,000,000+.

northern dave,

Nevermind, the pic of the 54 Chev hadn't shown up on my screen yet. Now I see the correct car you referred to.

I agree with Dave. 54 CHEVROLET plain as can be.
Posted By: Bigbuck215 Re: Woodies! - 07/07/15
The 41 Packard is probably the most rare one here. But the maroon Ford has to be one of a kind as not many 4 X 4's were produced back then.

The blue one in the second picture is a '40 Deluxe.

My 52 Powerglide Deluxe (2 door) had completely different tail lights, and a split windshield.

For some reason those are ugly to me, and turn me off.

Not sure why, but have never liked them at all.

But those are some cool old vehicles and what appears to be some good restoration work.!
