Apparently seething with authoritarian hubris, President Obama is seeking to wave his magic pen and a phone once more to undo legislatively-passed laws and set the stage for allowing Hawaii to secede as a state.
For decades, the State of Hawaii has vied for the right to return to being a sovereign kingdom. The chain of islands has a fascinating and rich history as a kingdom, but was adopted as a state in 1959. Multiple attempts by Hawaiian lawmakers to return Hawaii to a kingdom have failed and in recent years, Former Senator Daniel Inouye and Senator Daniel Akaka, Democrats senators from Hawaii, have pushed the Native Hawaiian Recognition Act- an act that would restore Hawaii to a kingdom run by ethnically native Hawaiians.

As one might expect, Congress has routinely defeated this legislation. A 2007 DOJ statement to the Senate highlighted the absurdity of the proposed law and noted,
Moreover, S. 310 effectively seeks to undo the political bargain through which Hawaii secured its admission into the Union in 1959. On November 7, 1950, all citizens of the Hawaiian Territory including native Hawaiians voted to seek admission to the United States. See, e.g., Pub. L. No. 86-3, 73 Stat. 4. By a decisive 2-1 margin, native Hawaiians themselves voted for statehood, thus voluntarily and democratically relinquishing any residual sovereignty to the United States.
Obama, who grew up in Hawaii (amongst many other places), appears sympathetic to this plight and his Department of the Interior has issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to overrule the will of Congress.

What the notice proposes is enacting a government-to-government relationship between the United State and the Native Hawaiian community, allowing the government of Hawaii to run as a kingdom dominated by a racial hierarchy, with native Hawaiians being in charge.

Obamas crusade, however, is fraught with legal complications. Aside from the obvious fact that such decisions are not the domain of the president, but rather the legislative body, Obamas actions would likely violate 15th Amendment protections as well as establish a precedent that states can secede in the pursuit of instituting a government centered on racial hierarchy- an obvious violation of innumerable tenets of our government and society.

In late May, TPNN reported:
The policy proposal, an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, states:

The Secretary of the Interior is considering whether to propose an administrative rule that would facilitate the reestablishment of a government-to-government relationship with the Native Hawaiian community.

The document claims that the goal is to more effectively implement the special political and trust relationship that Congress has established between that [Hawaiian] community and the United States.

What this does is essentially create a two-tier system based on race in Hawaii. It will afford separate taxes and law enforcement to one race and another set of policies will govern another race.
Since then, the Department of the Interior has endured a barrage of push-back from legislators and other assorted bureaucrats who have maintained that not only is this a terrible idea, but one that is inherently unconstitutional. Under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, Congress, not the president, has the authority to recognize tribes.

In fact, Obamas head of Indian Affairs at the Interior Department, Assistant Secretary Kevin K. Washburn, testified before a House subcommittee that this administration did not have the authority to recognize Native Hawaiians. Washburn claimed that we would need legislation to be able to proceed down that road.

Still, despite having no Constitutional authority, the Obama administration is continuing to push the policy change that could have far-reaching effects. It is unclear if even the Congress has the authority to allow such policies; it is, however, certain that the executive branch possesses no such powers.

While it is far from certain that Hawaii will be granted the right to secede, what such policy shifts are aimed at is creating a wider divide between races and unapologetically implementing a racial hierarchy with native Hawaiians at the top.

At a time when the most divisive president in history pretends to be interested in equality and egalitarian beliefs, its nauseating to see his administration stoke the flames of racial prejudice and seek to codify racial supremacy in law.

The U.S. stole Hawaii fair and square.

Yeah, really.
last time a state tried that, it didn't work out too well

if they want to bolt I'm all for it but whatever benefits they get from the federal government would have to immediately cease.

That would include FEMA, Homeland Security, DOE, etc.,
We could do with less welfart dimocraps.
And people say I'm wearing too much tin foil when I say he will not leave the White House at the end of his tour.

And I say he wants to leave now. Wants two more years of the failed mess he has made about as much as he wants a poke in the eye with a bicycle spoke.
I could see Hawaii immediately being overrun by the Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Russians, or even the Arabs. I would think it would be a ridiculously naive strategic move to give up Hawaii.

Yeah, I think this could set a good precedent.

Though I"d rather us stick together and get rid of all the liberals and democrats in office... and a lot of the republicans too.

i agree and will add that I don't think he will last through his second term.
Let'm leave and he can be their little "King"; that's if he doesn't figure out some way to declare Marshall Law and cancel the next election. Congress would have to approve that, so that probably wouldn't happen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't he declare Marshall Law with backing from the military; even less likely to happen. Nauseating to even think about............ sick

Sure he will. As long as his Praetorian Guard is happy with him he is safe. I see no evidence that the Praetorian Guard is upset with him.

Being Emperor is the best gig he's ever had or ever will have. He won't willing leave the best gig he's ever had.

The Emperor has shown that Congress is ineffective. The Emperor doesn't need no stinking Congress for anything. He has proven that.
How about instead of this idea, he ends all racial recognition in the US and actually accomplishes something positive. No more indian reservations, no more civil rights based on race, just Americans and those who aren't. Might be a good start to getting rid of the millions of non-Americans that are here illegally.
The chance that will happen is about as minuscule as Hawaii leaving the Union.

We need a new President.

But Hillary won't let him.

Haven't you all heard, naive strategic moves are all the rage.
Obama is drawing a red line that the Hawaiian natives shouldn't cross.
He will never leave - he has too big an ego for that. He will just continue to do nothing and screw up the country.
Can't happen. Just people scrambling for votes.
Native Hawaiians want their own reservation?

What did we do with all the other native American tribes? We shuttled them off to some worthless POC ground which no body else could find a use for at the time.

There is a large area of Nevada which was once used for nuclear blast trials. That would make a historically fitting reservation.
Even obama would have to leave, he is not an american citizen. He is a citizen of Indonesia.
Wow! The Hawaiian Islands will become like a big Indian reservation! Casinos, bingo, cheap cigarettes, tar paper shacks....

Wow you really don't get it do you?

His administration has been a rousing success in his eyes! Obamacare, and an economy forcing more and more government dependence? Are you kidding? His approval numbers are through the roof... At least the ones that matter. And no, the ones that matter are NOT the ones typical polls cite. The electorate hasn't mattered for quite a while, just as the alternative party hasn't offered a substantive alternative in a long time.

But I know, you still think a Republican in the White House will change things... laugh
Almost every one except you has been commenting on how old and discouraged Obama is looking these days.
He looks like a man just going though the motions.

All his approval numbers have sunk to their lowest base level of about 40 percent.
His party members that are up for reelection this fall won't even meet and greet him at the airport.
Biden may be President in six months.

This mid-term election will be a repeat of 2010 and everyone knows it. Except you.

A Conservative Republican in the White House will be as big of a change as when Reagan beat Carter.

Everyone knows that except you.

I wonder when you will live in reality than again maybe you never have.
Then there's the matter of PEARL HARBOR..................

There already are areas known as Hawaiian Homelands scattered throughout the islands. My son attends college in Honolulu and haoles such as him are advised to avoid those areas. I wonder if Obama would feel at home there?

RCP President Obama Job Approval
Average 8/4 8/28 Approve 41.9% Disapprove 52.3%

There is very bad news for President Obama and the Democrats in a new poll released last night by Investors Business Daily.
John Merline writes:
President Obama's approval rating dropped to his lowest levels as the public hammers him on his handling of each of the major crises facing the country, according to the latest IBD/TIPP poll, released on Friday.

The survey, taken the last week of July, found that only 38% of the public approves of the job Obama is doing as president, while 53% disapprove.

That's a 10-point negative swing in just the past month.
Breaking out the internals, it becomes clear that the Border Crisis is driving this sharp decline:

This drop comes despite the fact that personal outlooks and views on the economy and direction of the country have barely budged. Nor did the public's views on Obama's handling of the economy, the budget and jobs change noticeably.

But Obama got extremely low marks in his handling of every major crisis gripping the nation at home and abroad.

Just 25% say Obama is handling the border crisis well, while 56% blame his policies for encouraging the wave of illegal crossings by children and teens.
Even among Democrats, only 46% say Obama is doing a good job, while less than a quarter (23%) of independents do.

This augurs well for the GOP and disastrously for Democrats this November:
Obama hit an all-time low in the IBD/TIPP Presidential Leadership Index, which fell 3.2 points this month to 41.5.

That's almost precisely where the leadership index stood at this point in President Bush's second term, just before Democrats swept the House and Senate in the 2006 midterm elections.

Obama does not do well on other issues, too.

I would agree to let Hawaii secede as long as Barry agrees to apply for Hawaiian citizenship and never set foot in the good ole USA again.
The original post seems like some kind of fairy tail spun to get us all wound up. Hawai'i is my second home and this kind of thing would be big news there - if it were true.
Here is the reality world I live in.

By CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN and JENNIFER EPSTEIN | 8/29/14

In an election that Republicans want to make all about President Barack Obama, the White House is determined to make him all but disappear in the battleground states that matter.
The White House is putting the finishing touches on a post-Labor Day schedule that will send the president to states where hes still popular, such as: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Illinois and California, Obama officials and Democratic operatives said this week.

But in the red states that will determine control of the Senate, Obama will remain scarce. That means no personal campaign visits to states like Arkansas, Alaska, Louisiana and North Carolina. He may do some targeted outreach through robocalls, digital ads and conference calls, but the campaign plan is clear: Stay away from candidates hes already hurting.

Obamas no-fly zone for certain Senate campaigns reflects the deep concern among Democrats about his drag on the national ticket. Obama cant seem to get his poll numbers out of the low 40s, hes struggled through an endless stream of foreign policy crises, and hes the last person that many candidates want to be forced to defend on the campaign trail.

Six years ago, Obamas massive campaign organization helped to sweep several Senate Democrats, now the most endangered, into office with his appeal to unite political factions.
Now, hes an attack line.

Across the country, from Alaska and Colorado, to Louisiana and North Carolina, Republicans are citing how often the Democratic incumbent sided with the White House on votes in Congress. Its a tactic Democrats used to great effect in 2006 when they wrestled back control of the Senate by linking every incumbent to President George W. Bush, who was even more unpopular than Obama.

Hes going to be an anchor on each one of these Democrats all the way through, said Guy Harrison, a media consultant for the Republican Senate nominees in Arkansas, Colorado and North Carolina. Theyre trying to grasp every life preserver they can, but the anchor of Obama is still going to pull them down.

I'd be more than happy to secede.
Putin wants his Alaska back.
Hey Canada will trade you Hawaii for Saskatchewan
HI is probably like the Indian reservations. They want their own government but still want free roads, schools, military protection, etc. from the feds.
Well, I would trade Hawaii for the Yukon, BC , Alberta, and Sakatchewan, I lived in Hawaii for a time, to be frank, I would keep Pearl Harbor, so that means the Big Island- let them have the rest - cut them all off from Uncle Sugar!
If allowed, what will they do when Putin, China, ISIS or any other of the hundreds of renegades shows up on their shore to take over?
They'll be crying "come save us".
Pearl will always be US Property
