I haven't worn a watch in years. Between my phone and my vehicle, there's always something around me that tells time. So, that's not the reason. And I wear a uniform daily, so it's not about style

But I'm seriously considering one of these... and here's why:

I can't get my phone out of my pockets if I'm wearing normal jeans with a duty belt. And the new iPhones are too big to fit in a shirt pocket. So that leaves me with either 1) going to more cargo pant style designs (which are not looked upon favorably by the higher ups, though technically allowed by policy) whose pockets I'm able to reach below or around my holster or mag pouches, 2) use pancake leather type holsters and pouches, which suck for weapon retention and speed in comparison... Or consider this little doohickey.

Had never really considered something like this before, but I like the idea of being able to answer texts and phone calls, read emails or get directions with something small on my wrist and not have to dig out my phone from my pockets. Supposed to work when the phone is within 15 feet, so it could be stored in the truck and I'd still get notifications when near the vehicle. And for what it's worth, I did just order the enormous iPhone 6plus, mostly because of additional battery life and I think this little gadget would go well with it. And for work, I already have a 5s, which is supposed to work with the Apple Watch.

So, what do you think? Just for nerds? Has some useful function? Totally superfluous if you have to have a phone anyway? Kinda nice looking for a nerd tool?

That about covers it.
But if YOU want it, buy it
It's only money
I'd not buy one but I bet they sell a bunch.
No.
But millions will.

The day I quit wearing a watch was a very good day.

I almost always wear an bluetooth earpiece, because I can't afford to quit working just because a customer wants to yack about something. So, no, don't need it. The earpiece will read and send texts, pick up the phone, read messages, etc.
do you guys remember back 20 years ago when all you heard was how lap cumputer small screens were going to ruin everyones eyes staring at those screens. now the industry keeps building this stuff smaller and smaller and know one seems to care. the regular size computer monitor has ruined my eyes now.

i bet the eye docs are loving it
I wear a watch every day, but it's a good old fashioned self wind Omega or Bell and Ross, an Ernst Benz or my old Seiko Dive watch.
I've been wearing a Wenger dive watch for 15 - 20 years, works fine. In a pinch it would serve as a nice pair of brass knucks, don't think the I watch or what ever it's named, would hold up to rough usage.

Not really an Apple guy, but I've had a Pebble watch for about six months now. Mostly it tells time using interesting watch faces, but when something interesting happens on my phone (appointment rolls around; email, text, or tweet arrives for me; weather alert is declared; GPS says there's a turn coming up; etc.) my watch vibrates and shows the notification.

Helpful, useful, fun...but not necessary. Also aggravating that I have to charge the battery every five to seven days.
Guess I'm a dinosaur. I wear the same (mechanical, self-winding) watch I've been wearing for forty-five years. Gotta admit, though, the wife did get me an I phone and I kind of like it (when I remember to take it with me.)
No.
Was watching Jeff Dunham last night with Walter. They got to talking about the origins of the "Swatch" and attributed that to Switzerland.

Walter went off on a tangent speculating what they would have called it had it originated from Croatia.

I use the Pebble as well. I'm a runner and it started out as a way to control my cell phone to log runs. It evolved from there and I wear the Pebble more and more. I'm a watch-wearer so it isn't much of a stretch.

I will definitely pick up an Apple watch.
I wear a wristwatch. And my cellphone hangs around my neck.....
Seldom wear a watch. Don't and won't own a smart phone. Do have a cell phone, but only turn it on to call my wife and then turn it off again. Make a call maybe once a month.

Would I wear a smart watch?

Sure. It wouldn't be my first choice but I do enjoy gadgetry.

Would I wear an apple smart watch? No, but that's just for personal reasons. I don't like apple.

I'm happy with a cheap timex
I'm going to stick with old faithful. I'm just not a new tech guy.

Your watch is so-so, but your sweater is awesome - Alpaca?
Hmm, what does that remind me of? laugh

Really like my iphone....not into the watch.

It looks like you can get an app for it that tells time!

Reminds me of my high-tech sister "speech texting" wherein you pick up your phone and instead of writing a text to someone ( ridiculous enough) you speak into the phone ( imagine that!) and it texts for you

Would someone please sneak up on me and kill me now!
NO!!!!!!!!

If for no other reason I can't read the damn thing. Plus the purpose of a watch is to tell time period. I don't text either. I stop using the telegraph key decades ago.
I'm sure I miss the point of it, but I don't see any useful application for me. I don't have a smartphone and guess I don't know what I'm missing. I see so many people missing the world around them because they can't stop looking at their phone. What the heck is it about a phone that makes them so addicting?
I damn near own one of everything Apple makes, but I'm going to pass on this one.

Yep, same here.

I might. But I'm not an early adopter. I'll wait until they're out for a while and see how useful folks think they are and what kind of battery life they get.

Think I would like to go the ohter way. I've been wearing a watch for years and carrying a cell phone ever since the bag phone. I'd like to keep wearing a watch but stop carrying a cell phone alltogether or carry it turned off and turn it on when I want to use it.

That watch is so gay.
I'm not a big fan of wearing a tracking device.

I still don't carry a cell phone.

I haven't seen one yet, but I'm guessing the screen will be too small for my old eyes, even with the retina display.
WTF does it do? does it replace a phone?

Travis
Nope, don't wear a watch but I can't stand digital watches, gotta be analog.

They were right...why do you think all the nerds have buck teeth and crossed eyes.

Viewing porn sites on small screens.

Yes, and it tells time.

I would buy one if it replaces a phone.

Travis
Unfortunately it doesn't actually replace a phone, just moves the functions of a phone to your wrist, while you keep the phone in a pocket or pack or in the car.
I wear my Luminox Navy Seal Watch 24-7 . I also have other watches but never wear them

No, but then I don't have a "smart" phone either and won't have one.

Then I don't want one.

You're only thinking of the sender. The sendee is thankful for the text because they may be in a position that doesn't allow their having a conversation, but may still need the information.

That's the best feature of text messaging and e-mail. It relays info without having to interrupt whatever it is that a person is doing at the time.

Nope, I will do without first. I only use my cell for calls and not many of them, I still have a land line and answering machine. The only "connected" I need is with the computer, that is what I use for email and the web.

'Sides, the cell is ignored when I am busy or don't want to be bothered. It is mainly for emergency and the occasional need to talk with someone while away from home or my daughter telling me I need to pick up the grandsons as she is tied up at work. Never was much of a talker just to talk and would rather F-T-F with folks local.

That how I use text and how it should be used. Pizzes me off to no end when some schmuck want to have an in depth discussion with text messaging.

Dunno much about the Apple watch, but the Pebble watch (the thing Apple is ripping off and trying to outsell) can have bigger time digits than any other watch I've ever seen.

Or, if you don't like digits, you can have text. For example, my Pebble right now says:

nine
thirty
one

in letters about that size. Is that easy to read?

I use voice to text all the time. It takes only 10 seconds to text "NO" to someone, while it would take 30 minutes to explain "no" in a phone conversation.

Texting is for my sanity, most of the time.
