That's a great testimonial for one tough raft. It's still holding air.

I DO hope that happened on the ground.

Can't tell, is it a Mooney?

I think it's a Piper. This site has a pic showing the tail, which is not a Mooney tail.

Helluva dumb way to total a perfectly good (until that loud hiss...) airplane.
Posted By: blynyrd Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
Dayum! That's going to cost a dollar or two ninety eight.
Posted By: klondike_mike Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
Wow! That's a lot of raft for a 4 seat PA-28.
Posted By: derby_dude Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
HOLY CRAP BATMAN! shocked

Is that a rubber raft that inflated? The raft looks okay and a little buffing will make the plane a-okay.

No chance at repairing the plane? I mean military aircraft get shot full of holes and they repair them and make them flyable.
Posted By: RS308MX Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
Ok Woody, fess up. Did you do that?? grin
Posted By: tex_n_cal Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
inflated on the ground, while being loaded, thank goodness.

The thread mentions a case of one aircraft that went missing, the last report from being one of the raft just inflated in the cabin frown

Big difference between patching holes in skin and major structural damage. If you look at the picture it looks like the stringers in the roof got bulged upwards.
Posted By: RockyRaab Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
Look at the photo with the raft removed. Roof stringers broken, door frame broken, cargo door ripped off...

'Fraid that one's for the salvage yard.
Posted By: Partsman Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
So they have had a raft of accidents?

Give Red Green a jingle he'd have that airworthy in short order. grin

Truly an "OH CRAP" situation.
Posted By: Greyghost Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
It's become common practice anymore to use airbags to lift and move heavy machinery, air bags of any type inflating can do one hell of a lot of damage also!

It's a Piper for sure, and with what appears to be retractable gear and being a 4 seater, my first guess is it's an Arrow. Sweet little planes...

Posted By: derby_dude Re: OOPS... - 09/19/14
Thanks.

Thanks.

That's not the right way to turn your plane into a water landing pontoon plane is it.
