Pete McMahon is a name that probably almost every sheep hunter in Alberta knows. I had the privilege of working for him some 10-12 years ago, spending 10 weeks in the Wilmore Wilderness as a wrangler for his horseback sheep hunting outfit. He was one of the best men I ever knew, and the things I learned from him will stay with me forever. He was one of those men who just seems indestructable, so I was rather surprised when I heard he was ill. He was determined to still make it to sheep camp this year, but it was not to be.

I always planned to go back up to the Wilmore during sheep season just to sit around the fire and listen to Pete tell stories of past hunts and adventures. He was a great story teller, and he had a lot of them. He didn't have to make them up either. He really lived the life many have only dreamed of, and the Wilmore won't be the same without him. There's a video I'd like to post of a short interview he gave on the cycle of life, not sure if it'll work. He passed away Sunday morning. I hadn't seen him in years, was surprised at how hard it hit. A great man, friend and mentor, and sheep hunter extraordinaire.
Damn,...

that fella was an icon.

Condolences
