ABC Radio news reported that firearm carried by the deceased guard was a ceremonial firearm that had been disabled.
IIRC, the rifles of our guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are also disabled ceremonial pieces...

That certainly was problem in the Fort Hood shooting.
I cannot see any sense in forbidding all people, even including MPs, from carrying. I have to believe it would have affected the behavior of the perp there.

Of course it is deplorable when an innocent gets killed. Maybe more so when they are a member of an honor guard. Where is the honor in that?
