I'm a tad puzzled here, this lady just witnessed actual Hell first-hand and now she's bent out of shape because she was detained for some hours in Newark....

http://www.dallasnews.com/ebola/hea...hospital-as-part-of-ebola-quarantine.ece

The only thing they shoulda done differently IMHO is feed her better, better yet, given the massive concerns about the disease, set up quarantine quarters for these folks for three weeks over there. This oughtta be easily doable on embassy grounds or elsewhere on US Govt-controlled property over there (which there will be already in existence).

If nothing else this article illustrates how clueless and out of touch even educated Professionals can be. Witness the idiot infected ebola doctor wandering NYC. Which is exaclty why mandatory quarantine regardless outta be in effect.

Later on, when we have a better handle on the exact progress/infectivity of the virus enough to allay public fears, maybe the quarantine could be eased.

JMHO,

Once again proof that educated and intelligent aren't the same.
It would seem that her expectations for herself are quite different from what she expects others to go through. Typical in today's society.
looks like the nurse feels there is Constitutional right to not be inconvenienced.
If it things were done properly, she would be in quarantine for 45 days, not 21.

IMO it's more indicative of the doctor's level of selfishness and lack of concern for others than it is his intelligence or education.
She's stupid, seems pretty easy to understand.

I thought you were talking about the doctor. The doctor was the one that walked around exposing everybody after being in the affected area himself. The nurse has been quarantined.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's ironic that many of the same liberals who anguish over "if it saves just one life" when it comes to guns, are all into individual rights when it seems like they may miss their daily Starbucks or some other nonsense regardless of how many they kill by exposing them to the diseases they contract.

and the nurse tested negative for ebola.

but meanwhile ten people die every day as a result of texting while driving...
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who comes from Sierra Leone, Liberia or Guinea should spend 21 days in quarantine.
These Doctors and nurses who go over to help should understand this before hand.
Pay them, make them comfortable, feed them well and give them a good book.
What all these so called "professionals" seem to be ignoring is one sneeze in a crowded subway, movie theater or sports stadium and one case could turn into 100 cases, then one thousand.
Anyone, like the Doctor from N.Y. who went bowling, should be charged with reckless endangerment, and put in prison.

I dunno what the blood test tests for; the virus itself or the antibodies to the same. In either case in the early days of infection I believe both would turn up negative.

It would be instructive to know if the idiot ebola doctor tested negative on arrival too.

This idiot doc was pre the new New York law to hold on to them for 21 days. He more than likely caused the law to be put in place.

From what I understand the test will not show positive until a person is showing the symptoms of ebola. The test detects the presence of the virus and when there's no significant viral load the test comes out negative. Basically, there is no early detection of the disease.

The problem I see with this issue is the administration has no plan in place to deal with returning healthcare providers. The nurse was upset with the way she treated and I can't fault her for that.

It's the typical Obama administration reactionary way to deal with a crisis instead of having a plan in place. She wasn't the first healthcare provider to return to the US and she won't be the last. The helter skelter nobody knows what to do or who's in charge at the airport is ridiculous. There has to be a better way to deal with this.

Toad, I suggest you head on over to Liberia, and see how bullet proof you really are. shocked
One of them is interviewed on 60 Minutes tonight.

I can. Back in the eighties one of my Peace Corps buddies home visiting from Ghana had a plain ol' ordinary malaria episode while in the 'State, they placed him in isolation.

We all thought it was very funny. If we had been sequestered like that nurse on arrival in the 'States we would have thought that hilarious too.

See, after you have just spent time around people who are born into and who are living in abject poverty their whole lives, it gets harder to b$tch about minor aggravations back here in the 'States.

Leastways thats how we looked at it, others' MMV I guess.

Naah, IMHO the nurse is just being a whiny chick. Again odd, figuring in the scale of human suffering she had just witnesses.

hell, even back in the 1800s, they knew about quarantine, and enforced it. A short quote from "Admiral Hornblower in the West Indies":
Quote
A deeply sunburned officer, in a fine uniform came up the side and announced himself, in passable English, as the port medical officer, and received Fell's declaration that Clorinda had experienced no infectious disease during the past twenty-one days.

Goes to show that She really did not see what She looked at. Or, just a typical elitist. miles
this woman needs to learn that if you play in chit , then you are going to stink. The needs of the many out weight the needs of the one. Mr Spock

Selfish, entitled and smug. She's probably an Obama voter.
she is a registered democrat and said she was proud she voted for Obama
The problem I have with this is that she has no symptoms of the disease. The idiots at the airport incorrectly detected a fever and once it was known that she was not exhibiting symptoms there should have been a different response. Clinical isolation treatment wards are for people that are sick. You can be quarantined without resorting to full blown hospitalization. It's overkill, unnecessarily expensive, and impracticable to hospitalize every healthcare worker that's treated ebola patients when they don't show any symptoms.

Quarantine ... YES. Hospitalize ... NO ... not unless it's necessary.

Flame suit on. grin
no reason to flame the mentally incompetent. smile
Sounds to me like DSF has a good program.. 1 in 700 of their volunteers has been infected, and they had a protocol that worked when needed.

Man-licker, good to see the couch bound activist hard at it...you see, I'm not bullet proof, just willing to accept the risks that go along with liberty.

That sounds wonderful, where can I sign up?
Personally, if I had just come from being in direct contact with infected Ebola patients, I'd VOLUNTEER for a 21 day quarantine, just to insure the safety of my family & friends. Their health & safety would be much more important to me than a 3 week inconvenience.
She and her lawyer smell cash money.
That's all it is.
