California orders restrictions on all urban landscape watering...

Link

Should have been done 3 years ago!

It takes that long for those Hollywood types to figure simple stuff out.
They'll just hire some workers and use bottled water.

Eventually, we'll see some serious conflict between threatened and endangered critters and similarly threatened and endangered humans down there.
They're proposing a "canal" from Oregon heading south to feed into the aquaduct.

They've stolen all the water within reach, now they're reaching farther.

Exactly. Negate "prior appropriation" and the PRK and Nevada shrivel and die back to proper carrying capacity.
I was hoping this thread was about impeaching Obama
Why can't we just sell california to China
Flush twice.......California is thirsty.

You build one of the largest metro areas in the world in the middle of a [bleep] desert...and wonder why there are water issues. I thought most of the metro CA types where about sustainability? I wonder how much green grass was previously in the middle of the desert they populate?
There are just too many people here for the resources, but if the libs can import enough mexicans it to gain total control, they have some plans for a high death toll.
Pull the plug on Hoover Dam and wash 1/2 the fuggin state away.

Not the first time they have tried to steal ll the Columbia River. Gotta fill all those swimming pools and hot tubs and who need a river.

Was waiting for somebody to mention that..
Piss on them liberal SOB's
Good! The water is receding and the land is returning to its natural state, isn't that good? grin

Interesting, the article says "residents" I wonder if the .gov agency's will restrict their own water usage?

Cali is a phugged up place, they'll fug this up too.
Maybe they should start building desalination facilities all along that beautiful coast! Start with Malibu!
Let them bring water down from the north pole. Just need a big pipe line. Might even create a few jobs.
How many of these golf courses in one of the hottest, driest places on the planet do you suppose will go without water?

Well, THAT should have been started on a DECADE ago.
During the last water crisis in CA when I visited my dad in San FRancisco, a popular phrase was, "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush down." I wonder, does that apply to Brown the guv as well? whistle

A DECADE?!?!?!?

Shee-it, Greg, I remember reading an article in Popular Science in 1967 about the practicality of desalination plants for SoCal...
I'm sure that if given permission, they could pull a set of plans out of the drawer to pipe the entire Columbia river down there.

They had plans all done up to drain the entire Columbia around twenty years ago.
I know here where I live in Colorado, they put in watering restrictions...golf courses were exempt because "they generate revenue."

Water is slim all across the west.
Be careful what you wish for west/mid west guys. If Cali shrivels up, the populace has to go somewhere!!!! Ya'll are a lot closer to that "state" than I am. smile

Bet they're still stealing water from the Central Valley farmers and instead letting it run straight into the ocean to save the Delta Smelt.

Orchards and farms are broke so they can't pay taxes.
Farmworkers are on unemployment.
Food prices are up.
Water supplies are down.
But we got this cool little baitfish.

Sounds like natural selection.

There was a fellow Named Merle Jenson, built and designed desalination plants all over the world.
Spoke frequently on the University lecture circuit in the 1970s, and IIRC was tenured at University of Arizona.
He was raising 14 different varieties of hell about what lay ahead for the LA basin way back than.

Things will be alright though, that dipchit governor "Moon Beam" is going to ride to the rescue later this AM, and with one stroke of his wand, and a pinch of his magic fairy dust, make it all better.

....be interesting to see what new "regulations" he pulls out of his rectal orfice.

GTC
Desalination plants require lots of energy which normally wouldn't be a problem since California is floating on oil deposits both on and offshore. But we're talking Californians here and oil based energy causes imminanticeagegloblwarmingclimatechangeclimatedisruption.

Enjoy the desert morons.
Just to be realistic, I don't expect any meaningful solutions to the problem this time around...

and nothing in recent legislation will solve a thing.

But when 50 or 60 times as much can be spent on a bullet train than water supply... what's to be said!

Cal & Oregon were in talks way back in the 1960's to divert SOME NOT ALL of the Columbia water.

There's even been proposals to pipe water from Alaska.

Not that it will happen, but it can be done in a way with minimal disruption of flow from the Columbia. I doubt the outflow to the ocean would result in no more than a inch or two of depth loss.

Here's a short article dated 2008

Q: Which are the top 10 agricultural producing States?

A: In 2013, the top 10 agricultural producing States, in terms of cash receipts were (in descending order):

California,
Iowa,
Nebraska,
Minnesota,
Texas,
Illinois,
Kansas,
North Carolina,
Wisconsin,
and Indiana.
These and related statistics can be found in ERS's Farm Income and Wealth Statistics.

I hate to burst your Stewart Resnick sponsored bubble, but the Delta Smelt are so close to extinction, that pumping plants are not currently effected. From: http://californiawaterblog.com/2015/03/18/prepare-for-extinction-of-delta-smelt/

Quote
Intensive Kodiak trawl surveys near the state and federal water projects (Jersey Point) in 2014 caught so few fish that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service placed no restrictions on Delta pumping that year.

Expect no pumping restrictions this year either, as their numbers are so low, that "the man" in CA fisheries science is calling them functionally extinct.

If you're skeptical of the source I linked, google up some others. They'll all corroborate.

Big difference between California's 46.4 Billion and Idaho's 9.6 Billion.

But I'd agree, that some of California's farm production should be pushed back to other states, and allow California land to go back to desert....

The best thing they could do to save the delta smelt, and salmon smolt would be to take all size restrictions and no bag limit on Striped Bass. Probably help the Sturgeon population too!

Striped Bass were introduced in the 1880's

Yep, for 125 years, the Smelt were barely hanging on. But now with those huge Striper pops, they're getting hammered. Only, Striper numbers are way down. And Salmon numbers are way down. And Steelhead numbers are way down. And Sturgeon numbers are way down...

So, you know what it must be? It's got to be them dang Largemouth/Smallmouth/American Shad/Bluegill/Green Sunfish/Crappie....

Yes it could.

I left Ca farm country in 81. My sympathy lies with the land owners who got screwed out of their water rights. They'll have to change crops, irrigation practices and let land go fallow to stay alive.

I'd be ok with selling you some Columbia river water if they wouldn't just pump it over the Tehachapi to So Cal. But they would because Sacramento gets lots more money from the city dwellers than the farmers.

I gotta call Stewart and find out what happened to my check.

Haha. Hey, you'll never guess who was awarded the (so-called) Bullet Train contract?

"Dianne Feinstein's husband wins near-billion dollar California 'high speed rail' contract"

"To the surprise of absolutely no one familiar with the ways of Corruptifornia, the one-party state completely in the hands of the Democrats, a consortium whose lead firm is controlled by Richard Blum, husband of Sen. Diane Feinstein, was awarded a nearly billion-dollar contract for the construction of the first phase of the so-called high-speed rail line to link San Francisco and Los Angeles. Those paying attention to the project call it the “half-fast” rail line because it will share trackage with conventional commuter rail trains in the sprawling Los Angeles and San Francisco areas, lowering its average speed to levels achieved by American railways a century ago."

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog...h_speed_rail_contract.html#ixzz3UwZ9gF8a

His corporation has been found guilty several times for over-billing fraud and money laundering with one more case still pending.

Yeah but if all the californias die of thirst that really cuts down on the demand for CA food.

Was just reading in the paper this morning where the snow pack is at just 12% of normal...

and that one side effect of this extended drought that will get worst as it goes on is power generation.

With the priority's of water distribution being;

1. Domestic Use
2. Irrigation
3. Power Generation

This drought is not just going to be effecting California, but most of the western states.

And could result in more dependence on natural gas fired generating plants.

Phil
I heard on the local conservative radio that the project is costing $30,000,000 per mile. $15,000,000 goes to Blum/Fienstiens's company. Actually, Blum owns the holding company that owns the company getting that money for we-don't- know-what.
