I was tempted to start a thread asking members if Greg Abbot could be elected Governor of THEIR state after he made his announcement similar to Paxton's.

Then I decided to just wait and see if any other Governors followed his lead.

Still waiting.

God Bless him.

Without our freedoms which are getting seriously trampled) we are just another dictatorship with the cosmetic appearance of freedom.

Another way Pat is to get a preacher lic. on the internet and marry them in your off time at 500 a pop. Your shed in the back yard would work fine.

My brother became an ordained minister legally able to perform marriages in Texas after filling out a 2 minute for and giving the "church" $20. Took him about 15 minutes. Printed his credentials and was off to the races...

Since then he has married several couples. (None of the gay.)

I still have not figured out why anyone would want a lawyer to marry them. wink

So they can get the lawyer's business card based on the 50%> chance the marriage will end in divorce.

When things escalate I wonder if history will contend that it was all about gay marriage instead of states rights and over reaching by the feds and scotus.

Bingo!

In reality, it seems to be a pretty chicken schit move by the Attorney General. He is basically saying, "Don't do it if you don't want to and I'm sure that there are lawyers who will line up to defend you." Okay, great. But what if the clerk is found to be individually liable and forced to pay fees? What if she is jailed for contempt? A clerk can't even say that they were told not to do it by the state because that is not what the AG is saying.

If he wanted to man up, he could say that we will not be issuing them until the matter has been dealt with by the legislature and a procedure put in place to deal with it. That would give them some cover and some time, but it would put him in the crosshairs.
