Like most on here I do not watch much tv I have found this show to be very interesting in the lives of the people living in ANWR.
I wouldn't watch it initially because I thought it was just another trumped up reality show, but I got to watching during one channels viewing of several in a row, and now I'm addicted. Excellent stuff.
I like it too. Not as scripted with the fake drama of the other stuff.
Still a lot of trumped up drama, but I'd rather watch that than most of the other crap TV.
I like how the young man checked the bore of his rifle before the deer hunt by looking through the opened action without removing the bolt, and how, while hunting, one of them couldnt keep his mouth shut.
Thats the only one ive seen in a while

That's Alaskan Bush People. That show is a joke.

There are no people living in ANWR.
I like the fact that Ray Lewis carries an original 1895 in .35 Winchester. Wonder if he rolls his own fodder. What is it with his wife's and daughter's eyes? Anybody else notice anything odd?
I watch it too and as far as reality TV goes, I think its hard to fake alot of stuff they do
that said, and by no means am I an expert, but I am a little surprised at how unprepared they are at times given this is supposed to be a way of life for them.

I believe Heimo Korth and his wife's homestead predate ANWR and hence they are living there.
Hiemo is a character and good people.
My guess is they're back at their cabin after moving to Ft. Yuke for a few years for the girls to finish high school.
he's a heckuva guy
Apparently there are people living in ANWAR.
Like the show.
The Lewis girls have some weird eyes for sure.

I believe it's congenital ptosis. Mother has it to a degree too. There mat be other causes, associated co-morbidities, but it just may be poor levator muscle function. Easily correctable with surgery.
2ligit I think i have read in the past you know Heimo he seams like a happy guy. It s kind of like happy people life on the Tiaga sp do you know Bob Harte
Ben, I don't know Heimo well, but worked for the same outfit one season that he works for in the fall (he probably works for JP in the spring too come to think of it)
we were stuck on a gravel bar for a few days that season so got to hear some great stories from him.
and run into him in town once in a blue moon
2legit, Thanks for sharing that info about Heimo.
The Last Alaskans is by far and away the best "reality" show on TV.
I really like the fact that there isn't all the fake drama like all the other shows. Just people living and doing what they do everyday in a remote place is more than interesting enough for me.
I read a book on Heimo several years back and was pleasantly surprised to see he was featured on the show.
Surprising this show is on Animal Planet... I hope they don't change the format and we end up with another "Finding Bigfoot or crap like that.
I like the show, but I think the guy with the dog named Ruger is about to go under. He seems to be losing it a little more each show. By that I mean his skills seem to be deminishing. Those girls and mom have weird eyes ,but I hope a least one of them goes back to live in the cabin. I do like the old mans Winchester though.

I like it and I like the way they value their dogs. Most of the show is from the heart discussion, no fancy bullschitt or staged near bear attacks.

"The last Alaskans", the last Alaskans permitted to live in ANWAR
Thanks for the reply, I can relate with that guy Bob Harte. My wife did not leave me she died. Kids are gone doing there stuff. I am like him now all I do is [bleep] up.
Carolyn and I both like the show for the most part.
Very interesting that the Lewis family genetics carry on that strongly in the 3 daughters.
The folks in the show sure seem like good folks. Always intended to buy something by or about Heimo but never did. Will have to look for sure now.
As to bush people.... not sure how anyone much can watch that stupidity, though I watch a few minutes if its raining out or such to see exactly how stupid it currently is....
every episode of the Bush people I watch, their boat is sinking or floated off
rost,
This is the book I read about Heimo several years ago. Enjoyed it.

I've really enjoyed the show. Being a 95 fan of course I like Mr. Lewis'!!!

They were in For Chukon for a while?
yep they moved there so their girls could do high school proper I guess.
it was a sacrifice for Heimo, the way I hear it, but he does love those women folk of his.
he's a big fan of Sweetsir and I believe it's mutual.

Apparently Natives don't count. Kaktovik is well within ANWR.
Lonny - thanks
Watch, missing that point totally?
Lonny, thanks for the link I just ordered the book. I enjoy the show and the people, best reality show since early Deadliest Catch.

I too initially figured it was a scripted dumb ass reality show. Captive at a friend's home one evening and found it to be quality production. Not a regular yet, but I'd not surf away if it appears on the screen. Just seem to be good hard working folks that see the light at the end of the tunnel. Quite saddening really.

You are right, natives don't count. In addition there has to be at least a half dozen families that were grandfathered in prior to the stupid law and can live there until the death of their youngest child. As the show says within 100 years there will be no one living in those cabins. I suspect much less than 100 years but you need a little dramatic affect.
Can only be passed to direct family...I know folks who set up cabins and got grandfathered in.
I enjoy the show alot. Thought it was great that Heimo has a pet name for his 788 Remington. Was trying to get a shot at a caribou when a shell got caught up between magazine and action. He called it "prick"! I had a name for a Win 88 that was similar!!

the daughters suffer from a genetic condition called Blepharophimosis, ptosis, epicanthus inversus syndrome (or BPES). Each of the words in the name of the condition describes a different type of abnormal growth of the eye’s opening. Blepharophimosis is a narrowing of the opening; ptosis refers to–per the National Library of Medicine’s Genetics Home Reference page–”droopy eyelids”; and epicanthus inversus is “an upward fold of the skin of the lower eyelid near the inner corner of the eye.”

Eye Condition
The Lewis girls may look a bit different but Ray and Cindy have raised them to be smart, independent, hard working women. I hope they occupy the cabin til the end.
I would love to sit around a fire and listen to Heimo's stories. He seems to be such a straight-up guy, totally without ego.
I also love the way the characters themselves do all of the narration on the show.
I like the show, and other Alaskan shows. Last Frontier, Port Protection, Life Below Zero. That bush people thing is a joke.
We watch the show every chance we get, wife and I both love Heimo and Edna, they are what we hope to be when we are their age. The Lewis' seem like great folks and they certainly did a wonderful job of raising their 3 daughters, it's cool to see that they enjoy living in bush Alaska. Charlie is quite a savvy outdoorsman for someone so young, he's a helluva trapper and did a masterful job of building his cabin and he did it the hard way. We miss not seeing Bob on the show, he was quite a character and his pup was one as well, he got around pretty good for someone in his condition but from day 1 I never thought he'd last long on the show due to his health.
The Last Alaskans is the best show on tv IMO.
I've met the Lewis Girls a couple times.....great young people!......very bright and cheerful.
Love the show also, and liked Heimos book! miss Bob Hart, hope his Daughters doing well!
My favorite show, hope they keep it coming..
It's a really good show for the most part.
I tuned out when on one episode Heimo was caribou hunting and found someone's old campfire ring and went on a rant against trophy hunters.
He called them all slobs and said he wished that the animals didn't have antlers or horns.
Living in Kalifornia, I'm bombarded by anti hunting bull s hit and thin skinned when others preach it.
I mentioned a while back that Heimo's cousin, James Campbell, stayed with Heimo and Edna and wrote the book. He recently wrote another book about his daughter, Aiden, flying in with him to visit Heimo in the summer. Edna didn't think the young lady would make it, she did. The young lady aggravated her Dad to spend a couple months of winter with Heimo and Edna. They did it and Heimo had them sleep in a tent as he didn't have room for them inside. The father and daughter came back and did a backpack trip over the Brooks Range and used a folding canoe to paddle from the head of the Hulahula river to the Bering sea. "Braving It" by James Campbell. I thought it to be a very good book. Oh, by the way Heimo invited them that summer to help him build a new cabin as Edna was at Ft Yukon with a bad back.
I love the Last Alaskans, along with Mountain Men. Yukon Men is okay too. Bob Harte was my favorite, along with Heimo. Marty and Tom on MM seem to the genuine article.

I"m trying not to defend Heimo, but I do understand a bit of what he was saying. Quite often hunters are trying to shoot for inches, have a lot of money and don't give a damn about anything else. Maybe I should not say quite often, but often enough to aggravate folks. They don't care about litter, the planet, that they were there, what happens to the meat or what they have to do to make it into the book.
OTOH I'm just happy to harvest meat, and if a big one comes along, I might or might not shoot it. Like a moose, I'd love one say 65 plus. But only one. I think that would be my self imposed limit. Especially if I can find a spike or fork. LOL.
Going to have to order the braving it book, but have to check the stack of books we have, about 30 or so, on the counter right now, don't need two copies. LOL
