Anybody that makes the blanket statement that new country sucks can go fugk themselves. Guess this song's been out awhile but I just heard it the first time the other day. I can only hope the rest of her album is as good as this.
I wouldn't say new country music sucks, but every country radio station I've heard in the past few years sucks big time.
Hadn't heard that song, or the band you posted. Not really my style but is a pretty good song. Much better than anything I've heard on the radio lately.
Oh my gosh, she's from California. San Francisco even.
Clearly she's not your typical "Hot New" country singer, she doesn't have the same back-up musicians, same steel guitar thrown in to make it country, same over-production and forced Nashville studio work forced on radio stations as the other bands and singers playing/singing "country" music.
Decent song and good voice. I'd listen to her. I'm with the others that say it is country radio and commercial Nashville that are churning out this so called "country" pop/rap/whiner music that is the problem. There are still good country artists and songs out there, it is just that "Country" radio won't play it since the 14 year olds won't buy it. That's why satellite radio is attractive to me since I can listen to the old stuff or the newer stuff, whatever I want when I want. Although I'm not sure that new artists with new music have any easier time of getting some airplay on satellite.
The pop music industry is what is whether rock, rap, country, top 40 etc. When a new group comes along with a unique sound and people like that sound the music companies try to replicate it with scores of clone bands. The problem is the clone bands want to make it so bad that they capitulate and play songs written for them and take on an image fabricated for them. With artistic expression, it just doesn't work when you're faking it.
There are plenty of talented musicians out there, and with the net it's easier for them to get heard.
Mighty pfoucing Merle, Buck Owens, and numerous others too.
I hate most the new stuff, epitomized by the FL GA line phags. But the point my drunk self was trying to make was that not all the new artists suck.
We can debate what is "country" all day. This chick is a very talented vocalist and wrote a damn good song. Figured I'd share with the 'fire.
Point well taken BGG, and as one of the loudest bitchers about today's noise on the radio (and the azz hats from the FL/GA line) I appreciate the intro to this very talented lady. That's not the kind of song to listen to right before heading to bed, but I listened to it twice.
