Well guys, my wife's father's funeral was yesterday here, my surgeries are over and I am mending, summer is coming to a close, and my wife is thinking of going back to her job sometime this month.
We would like to do a nice guided fishing trip for walleye, (and I'm sure ?) to wipe away all the hurt, bad things, etc., just for the 2 of us, to start a new page in out book of life together.

Member Randy R, had sent down walleye filets, as she has never had it before, and loved them.

Sooo, let's go on a fishing trip for walleye, and stock up on some.

Where to go guys?

Mn, wi, etc., too far.
Co, ut, id, nv, etc, in our driving range.
Someone out there knows a guide service, a nice, pet friendly lodge, hotel, etc....that's out this way....

Sorry for your loss. Lake of the Wood in Minnesota is usually a pretty safe bet.

I'm not a Walleye fisherman but years ago an old hunting partner used to go out to Washington / Oregon and fish the Columbia. He showed me pictures of some awfully nice walleye.

I have read the Columbia is the greatest walleye fishery in the world.

He passed June 10th, down in San Benito, Tx., where he was living.
My wife had been down there since April, when we found out he had stage 4 cancer.

It's mostly behind us now, and we want to have a nice fishing trip for just the 2 of us. (and Trap!).

She is going to go back to her job, and I'm prepping already for waterfowl season.

I'm gonna set up a 6x10 cargo trailer to haul all my decoys, blinds, and gear.
I can't deal with any weight over 25 pounds for the next 3 months, so putting up slotted bags, and lay out blinds just a foot or so off the ground, should keep me safe.

Any ideas would be great.

I would go in lake of the woods or lake Oahe in SD would be much closer to you.

Fort Peck Reservoir is hot right now but its in BFE and not many guides and i dont have a boat to play guide with.

Lake Powell.

Rent a houseboat for a week, stock it up and park it in a cove where you won't have any visitors.....

Have the guide pick you up on the water. Remember to put your clothes back on first. I'm not sure what part of the lake would be walleye, probably by the dam, but the guide can tell you and you can park yourself close to that area.

I have a 26", 6 pounder, on my wall from Ft. PECK.
It was the biggest I've still caught to date.

There seems to be some walleye in Colorado. I'll be calling tomorrow.

I fish the Columbia quite a bit and the big walleyes are taken in Feb March and some nice one's taken in Potholes in April.

Not a number game and not that scenic unless a true walleye trophy hunter.

Now in the 100 s and fishing not enjoyable.

For the experiencei would look to Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

after being way low for over a decade it came up to full in 2011 flooding all the vegetation that had grown on the old lake bed, forage fish numbers boomed and now we are reaping the benefits of several years of well fed fish....been some big fish caught from shore all summer, even better from a boat.....but as you know we are a bit out of the way....

FT Peck is a wonderful fishery to be sure. Have caught dozens of nice eyes there and decent pike.

If you want some walleyes that are close easy to get now in August would suggest Potholes in WA. Can provide a name of a local guide .

Still recovering from surgery but would love to take you out.Looking at 14 to 30 inchers ( if lucky) this time of year in the heat.

Her there, me here, friends running me to docs, her dealing with him, we did meet up in Houston, and went out of Galveston, on a cruise. When we returned, I returned home, and she went to him.
Now, I'm mending, and she is nursemaiding again.
We just want some time alone, to take a breath, laugh, hold hands, and enjoy each others company, before more life issues arise.

I've fished Banks Lake in WA quite a bit with good luck in August. There are a few guides on that lame that are good. Smallmouth Fishing is also very good.

Well, being as I'm in Michigan, I'm sure I'm probably too far for you to travel too, although the fishing has been good here in Michigan this year for Walleye!

That said, I believe I would direct you to North Dakota and Devils Lake. I would further suggest my friends, and fellow guides, Pete Harsh, or maybe even Johnnie Candle.

If you've never fished Devils Lake, it's a most diverse and amazing fishery with not only fantastic Walleye fishing, but jumbo Perch and tons of Northern Pike that will attack most offerings you throw at them!

Nobody has mentioned Wyoming yet, so here's a resource page for it In-Fisherman did a segment on Boysen Reservoir just yesterday, with a walleye guide. They were fishing for trout, but the guide usually goes for walleye. It's near Thermopolis, so there are camping places, motels and eateries nearby. LINK
