The local bait shop is out of red wigglers so I went by Wal-mart to get some. Noticed their "we're out of .22 ammo" sign was down so asked. Yep, they have some. It's Winchester 37gr 1330fps long rifle.
$5.97/hundred. First time I've seen that sign down in two years.
Websterparish47: Good for you!
And that ammo at that price is a truly GOOD DEAL!
I have not seen 22 L.R. Hunting ammo at a Wal-Mart in 34 months now!
The closest Wal-Mart to me is 65 miles each way so I do NOT get by that store to often.
But I do travel A LOT and I always stop at any Wal-Mart I pass.
I remember the good ol'days when Wal-Marts had stacks/palates of Federal 22 L.R. hollow-points and they would sometimes be priced at $8.97 for 550 packs!
Those 37 grain Winchesters are accurate in my heavy barrel 22 Rifles.
I do prefer the Winchester 40 grainers - but again I have a hard time finding those so I take what I come across.
If I were you I would go buy a lottery ticket.
Hold into the wind

Still nothing to see here.
Same old story here, "we had some one day last week but they were gone in a hour".
I shot 17 rounds of 22 lr yesterday
Mike
Wow, a real spree of wasteful rapid fire. Shame on you Six.
Been some 1000 round packs in a walmart for going on 10 days now... 60ish bucks IIRC.
I have been to two Bass Pro shops, two Gander Mountain, and a couple of LGS. No .22 at all, at any price. The Academy Sports had none, Wally World had none.
I don't think this will be rectified in the near future.
Was at local Walmart for a couple of items and had to ask the locations. The fifth person I was referred to worked the gun counter and actually knew where the items were I wanted. I thanked her and she asked if she could help on anything else to which I replied not unless you have any .22 ammo, I nearly dropped when she not only said yes but how many. Multiple bricks and boxes of Thunderbolt. Today I wandred through Freddies (Fred Myers)and they had a good stack of Blazers at the gun counter. I think I also heard angelic choirs singing too.
I picked up 200 rounds of Federal American Eagle at an Academy Sports Saturday evening. Limit of 2 boxes, so the girlfriend was my "straw buyer". They also had some Remington. It is trickling in here and there.

I'm finding some over the counter around here.
You seem to be living in the worst place in America (no, the world) for .22 LR.
Been finding it regularly now at Academy. We have have a guy Renegade50 call him Scalper Steve.
It's some viet nam vet guy with a store front. He has EVERY type of 22 ammo known to mankind. He does make a small premium but he does stock the hard to find types for discriminating paper punchers.
Slum
Not sure what flavor match ammo you like but these guys are good folks!

thanks...will check that out.
Saturday morning Aug.15th Adventure Outdoors in Atlanta had more CCI Mini-Mag HPs than I have ever seen in one place. Several pallets stacked 6ft high.
Cases and case of the stuff. $9.99 per 100rds.
Also Federal Auto Match for $21.99 per 325rds.
No limit, the ck-out girl said back up your truck and we will load all you want.

... No limit, the ck-out girl said back up your truck and we will load all you want.
And I'll bet that somebody did.
Since last December I have been able to aquire about 4000 rounds. Usually stop at gun shops and hope for the best. Last purchase was Sunday at Dick's. They had Federal 325 count for 19.99. I haven't seen any at Wal-Mart in over 2 years. Every Sunday morning I check Dick's weekly add on line. Seems every 2 or 3 weeks they have something. And there are no lines any more like there used to be.
MONTANA is the worst place on the planet for 22.
Tinfoil and mlishas, ya know. Ever read the back of a Montana road sign?

Our Fallon NV WallyWorld sporting goods manager is still high-grading them to his buddies. They show up at the local gun shows for $65.00/brick of Rem Thunderbolts.
Actually, saw something of that nature happen at BassPro Saturday. I wasn't amused.
I was at Bass Pro Friday and asked and the guy laughed at me. My local shop always has some.
Starting to show up here. Both Cabelas and Gander Mountain had some stock. Limits and about 10-11 cents a round
I always take a look in the ammo case at our local farm store when I'm there. For the first time in years I saw 3 bricks in there about a week ago, price tag was $59.95. Needed something from there a couple days later and they were gone.
As long as someone is willing to pay that kind of price they will not be dropping any time soon.
Cabelas here in st louis has been pretty good about having some available. hope it continues.

The gun show vendors are selling that for 35-40 bucks. People are apparently still dumb enough to buy it up.

The same stuff was $8.97 at Wally World in Wenatchee, WA last Thursday. I got the last two boxes on their shelf.
It's getting more expensive to keep the grandkids shooting these days.
News like this will be worth reporting when the shelves are fully stocked and kept fully stocked.. Not here today, gone tomorrow.
Still seen none in my AO.
g
I have been able to buy some the last few months here around Baton Rouge, CCI mini mags, some CCI stingers, some winchesters supreme - prices range from 8-12 cents per round
Been seeing it everywhere around here, Federal Auto Match, Win Super-X and Rem Golden Bullet. Its running around $9 a hundred, I havent picked any up in a couple weeks.
Sport's Dicking Goods had an ad in the Sunday paper for 325 boxes of Federal for 19.99. Stopped in today (Tuesday), and they actually still had some available.
Runnings had Winchester copper plated for $2.49 for 50. Best price I've seen in a long time. Problem. limit 2 boxes!
If some unknown entity wanted to disable the tool most commonly used to teach children to shoot, they would do well to eliminate the 22 LR ammunition supply.
Just saying.
A new Cabelas opened here this weekend. I wandered into a Gander Mountain on Saturday and found more .22LR than I'd ever seen in one place in a number of years.
Chest-high shelves, 4-5 feet wide. Remington, Federal and CCI. Not only was every shelf full at the front, but they were full all the way back. Prices ran from about $.07 to $.10 a round. No limit.
The store was almost empty of customers.
So why are there these stacks of .22s sitting around all of a sudden? Even when all shipments were being swept up by speculators the minute they hit the floor, there weren't stacks to be swept up.
It's been my routine to check Walmart periodically for it, and it's literally been since Sandy Hook that I've seen a single box on the rim fire shelf there. Plenty of .17, just not .22. Was just there Saturday, in fact. Picked up 500 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .380 ACP. Those have recovered nicely since Sandy Hook, but not .22 Long Rifle.

I remember when .45 ACP could be had for ten cents per round.
I remember when gas was 46 cents per gallon and you could mail a letter for a dime.
That has nothing to do with today.
i was in cabella's yesterday, and they had four or five kinds of .22lr on the shelves.
about 5bucks a box or so, the eley was 20bucks a box.
those federal value backs were 23bucks for 325rounds.
I should have bought it all i guess. And i was complaining when 22magnum was five bucks a box.

Because of the new Cabelas!
For the past few years,
this Gander Mountain store has stocked its .22LR on a
two-foot length of a single shelf. The rest of the shelving was stocked with other types of ammo. Most of the time, that little section of shelf was bare. Sometimes, a few boxes of CCI std. velocity at $5 per 50. (These are rows of chest-high shelves near the middle of the store.)
Call me a cynic, but I believe it was no accident - indeed, no coincidence - that on the first weekend of the new Cabela's, this Gander store stocked about
five four-foot lengths of shelves completely
full, front to back, of decent quality .22LR (not a single box of Thunderbolt) and no limit.
It was about 10:30-11:00 on the Saturday morning, and it was all just sitting there, like a freaking mirage. I should have taken a cell phone pic. I actually went in there to buy a box of factory center-fire rifle cartridges, and didn't expect to see any LR at all.
I still don't get it. For the last how many years, the factories were running at least 4 8-hour shifts each day (yes, I know), but no stores could get any. Now all of a sudden, people are reporting mountains of the stuff (with snow on top) sitting in stores. Why can they get such quanitities now when no one could get any at all a few months ago?
I doubt the mountain I saw is still there now. It was a marketing thing.
I may stop by next weekend to confirm, but I'm not ready to declare the panic over.
I remember when gas was 46 cents per gallon and you could mail a letter for a dime.
That has nothing to do with today.
Hmmm....I am slightly older than you!
I actually sold all my 22 rifles.....So I would not shoot up my stash of 22. Hell, around here a brick of 22 is worth more than your average 22 rifle.
Oklahoma City, circa 1960-61, gas price wars and regular was 9 cents/gal. Usually in the high teens to low 20s.
Stamps were 3 cent as I recall. Good times.
you also made how much a year?

When a dollar is just the monetary term for an ounce of silver, you can buy a lot of stuff with just a few of them.
I picked up a 1984 prospector round for $16 yesterday. I wish they would have had more. Over the last two weeks I've also picked up 600 rounds of CCI minimag HP's. It's been a two box a day limit but they had some in on 3 different days. They were about $8 a 100.
