I thought it might be good to have a thread where you can post your favourite hunting pictures. I'll go first:

[Linked Image]
This is the last moose that I was able to hunt with my 88 year old grandfather. He had hunted the area for 45 years and its an area we still go to this day. That was a very special trip as I video'd him walking around the old cabin site telling stories.

[Linked Image]

There is nothing really special about this deer itself, but the day we got this one was 3 days after my youngest was born. Mama needed a break and whitetail season had just started so I took the other two kids more to get out of the house. My son spotted this deer in a field and knowing that I wasn't likely to get out much that season I closed the deal. It was the first hunt with my daughter along and a great memory.

Let's see your pictures and hear your stories!

That is a good record. I did the same with mule deer and a cap lock, but not quite of a good success rate. (and only 15 years with black powder only)

My son and I with our handgun antelope. He had been getting frustrated with several blown stalks. When we shot this buck he yelled "you got him!" I think we were both surprised.

[Linked Image]

We'd just shot a cow elk here and he gotten cold so he sat by the fire while I took care of the elk.

Always hard because I'm not a shutter bug - hate cameras.

My son's first - youth season. He's not one for emotion at all about anything but he was very happy on this.

[Linked Image]

I include this because I try and take a week off for deer season. A lot of times family is up there etc but I typically get one good night in the shack to myself. This was that night a few years ago. Just always liked it.

[Linked Image]

And then finally - the view of our humble shack from my rack. Not fancy but built by my uncle and father 30+ years ago and has kept us dry and warm since. Initial cost of less than a used 4 wheeler in it.

[Linked Image]

Nice buck.

Did you hunt on the indian land near Chimney rock? Dad and I hunted out of the Chimney rock Campground in ~2008, got 2 ok deer but saw several with horns like yours but mostly on the res. land south of the access road to Chimney rock itself.

It was the year Oprah mentioned the Hot pools at the big town east of Chimney rock, I guess the locals were overwhelmed with Oprah lovers that fall.

My son's first deer when he was 11.

[Linked Image]

His 10 point about 3 years ago.

[Linked Image]

A nice one I took a couple of years ago.

[Linked Image]

This was a muzzle loader kill. Shot the buck and the yote ran to me and hung around long enough for me to reload.

[Linked Image]

I just couldn't bring myself to shoot this guy. He must have been sent from god.

I was NNE of town about 15 miles as the crow flys. Beautiful area, I was slipping up on a raghorn bull with 3 cows when I bumped that buck out of his bed. He hesitated before crossing a small rise about 160-170 yards from me and I was able to make the shot.
That's the octagon barrel on a favorite custom 30-06. I passed on those does.

Here are a few more photos of a giant Axis I photographed in September 2013. The buck was in a 1100 acre pasture of live oak, Cypress and Juniper. I contacted the land owner to ask about an oppertunity to hunt this buck. First thing he said was that he dosen't care for hunting and I wouldn't be able to find him again anyway as he had only seen him twice in the last 3 years. Beautiful animal and I was lucky to have my camera with me that day! Hunting with a camera is still hunting I guess!!!
