Before the election of Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) in February 2010, Democrats had a super majority in both the House and Senate.

It meant a GOP filibuster would fail, and Democrats could pass anything they wanted without a single Republican vote. 2009 was the year of Obamacare and the stimulus.

The last time the GOP had super majorities in both houses was the 67th Congress (1921 - 1923).

The GOP had a 302 to 131 margin in the House, and a 59 to 37 margin in the Senate (61.5%.) There were only 48 states in those days.

There was also a Republican president. What happened when they had full power?
Government spending was cut 25% in 1921, and another 25% in 1922. In effect, the government budget was cut in half in just two years.

They also cut taxes for all groups, and the top rate was reduced from 73% to 25%. They balanced the budget and reduced the national debt by one third.

Other accomplishments were the eight hour work day, cutting unemployment in half, and creating what is today known as the Office of Management and Budget and the General Accounting Office.

They created the economic growth policies that resulted in what came to be known as the Roaring Twenties.

Their record of accomplishment was so impressive that many prominent Democrats decided not to seek the presidency in 1924.
Cal was definately Cool !
That was back when those in gov't actually gave a chit about the country..

The a-holes in there now couldn't care LESS...
if the GOP had a super majority today, they would still ruin the country with their policies. it would just be a slower death, than with the Dems.

the USA is running out of time, if it is to return to any resemblance of her former glory
