This morning I took my Weatherby to Pac-Nor for a new barrel to be fitted and chambered. On the way, what do I see standing RIGHT beside the road. A few minutes later when I came back by they were at the back edge of this field grazing. They can easily jump this fence. I counted five spikes in the group. Spikes are important to me! I have a spike tag for this November.

I don't know. They were a few miles south of Oregon.

Smith River Area, Del Norte County, just north of Pelican Bay Prison... and where they grow all of those Easter Lillies... that is why those high fences are there...

I came down there one night, and about a hundred or more were out on the highway there ( US 101 for you out of towners).. those fences were blocking them on each side of he road....at night

and the rain was dumping....West Coast, 500 yds from the ocean January dumping with 80 mph winds blowing ashore...like coming out of a fire hose..

I was only doing 35 or so with my high beams on and the wipers were just pushing the rain back and forth around the windshield it was raining so hard... looked like trying to look thru a toilet while flushing...

I skidded to a stop and about 8 to 10 of them ran into the sides of my car....I laid down on the horn finally and they scattered... what a zoo....

It gave a really odd feeling to see an elk herd up against the Pacific for the first time.

Go south of Crescent City and there is a large herd, at a viewing area, off of what use to be Hwy 101 back before the old bridge over the Klamath River was washed out back in the flood thanks to the Tsunami that occurred after the 1964 earthquake up in Alaska.....

At times, one can see Elk going right out on the Beach.. large numbers of them...and even wading out into the surf a fair distance depending on their presence and the timing of the tides...

Someone bonked a monster bull out of that heard a few years ago. Don't remember if they caught the guy or not.

Cal has a state park south of Klamath that has hundreds of elk running around on it. You'll more than likely see elk running around on the beach.

It's illegal to hunt within 1 mile of the shore line in Oregon. I saw some elk slashing in the break water near Lincoln City/Newport a few years back.
