When was the last time the murder rate in America was lower than 2014? Post a guess before looking at the answer.

1957. 1954-1957 ranged from 4.0 to 4.2, lower than 2014's 4.5. The next earliest year was 1909 at 4.2. These are per 100,000.
You didn't find THAT tidbit on the MSM - nor will you.
Imagine what that number would be if we took inner city numbers out...
Thanks for posting that Calhoun. I could have used that yesterday when I was arguing with some scumbag gun controllers. I'm sure I'll use those figures in the future.
O K..... I'll play by the rules........ 1975

If black on black murders were on par with white on white murders, the number would drop from 4.5 to something no higher than 3.2, which hasn't been seen since about 1900.

curdog, if we look at violent crime rate, we are matching the late 60's or early 70's. Mostly the high violent crime rate is driven by a high rate of aggravated assaults. But our violent crime rate is still a lot lower than England. England has less murders and less gun crime, but more assaults/rapes/etc.

As the Black Population increase so will the murder rate.

Bump for the afternoon crowd. This is a stat needed to throw up against any gun control nut when they start spouting about how bad mass murders are.

FBI UCR data.

1995-2014: https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2014/crime-in-the-u.s.-2014/tables/table-1

1900-1999: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate_to_1999

The FBI has made it impossible to get pre-1960 data from their web site, but copies of it exist from years previous when it was available. Other crimes can't be mapped back because the definitions changed (assault in 1960 wasn't the same as assault in 1930), but murder is murder and it's definition has stayed unchanged since 1900. The Wikipedia page is built from those FBI numbers, as confirmed by viewing a number of papers and books written with the data.
