Rough, rough day for myself and the family.

We had to finally make the call to send our 13 year old lab Ben to a place where he will be happy, pain free, and whole.

He was a great dog, companion, family member, and older brother to our other lab, Cooper.

Rest in peace, my friend. I hope there is no more blindness, no more insulin shots, and no more tumors for you this evening. There were some days in my life where I am sure you were the only one who understood me and loved me unconditionally. I love you and miss you already.

Good looking pups. Very sorry for your loss.
Always sad.
Always heart breaking.
I was about two weeks ahead of you. You made the right call to let him rest.
Rest easy Ben. So sorry for your loss.

I took my 12 yo female lab to the vet yesterday for unexplained weight loss. I'm afraid her days are numbered as well. A good dog's only fault is they don't live long enough.
Sorry to hear this, but be thankful we can do the right thing, through tears and all.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I know I'm only a year or two from going through that again myself. The joy they bring far outweighs the pain of losing them. I wish you the best.
RIP Ben. So sorry for your loss my friend.
They are just too soon gone. Godspeed.
Damn duck911 my heart breaks for you and yours. Been there too many times myself. They are family.
Posts like these choke me up as much as anything. Been there a few times myself....

Sorry for your loss!
Sorry to hear this.RIP good doggy!!!

Tears me up. I'm so sorry, my friend.

We lost our Libby about six months ago and it still hurts to the very soul. Libby is our Angel Dog.

ANGEL DOGS

When dogs go to Heaven, they don't need wings because God knows that dogs love running best. He gives them fields. Fields and fields and fields.

When a dog first arrives in Heaven, he just runs.

Dog Heaven has clear, wide lakes with geese who honk and flap and tease. The dogs love this. They run beside the water and bark and bark and God watches them from behind a tree and smiles.

And, oh, the dog biscuits. Biscuits and biscuits are as far as the eye can see. God has a sense of humor, so He makes His biscuits in funny shapes for His dogs.

Every angel who passes by has a biscuit for a dog. Every dog becomes a good dog in Dog Heaven. God turns clouds inside out to make fluffy beds for the dogs in Dog Heaven, and when they are tired from running and barking and eating ham sandwich biscuits, the dogs each find a cloud bed for sleeping.

Dogs in Dog Heaven have almost always belonged to somebody on Earth and, of course, the dogs remember this.

Heaven is full of memories. So sometimes an angel will walk a dog back to Earth for a little visit and quietly, invisibly, the dog will sniff about his old backyard, will investigate the cat next door, will follow the child to school, will sit on the front porch and wait for the mail. When he is satisfied that all is well, the dog will return to Heaven with the angel.

The dogs in Dog Heaven who had no real homes on Earth are given one in Heaven. The homes have yards and porches and there are couches to lie on and tables to sit under while the angels eat their dinners. There are special bowls with the dog’s names on them.

And each dog is petted and reminded how good he is, all day long.

Dogs in Dog Heaven may stay as long as they like and this can mean forever.

They will be there when old friends show up. They will be there at the door... ANGEL DOGS....

Nothing like the bond between a man and a good dog. That's why it's so tough to say goodbye.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss Sir.

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
Sorry to hear about your Bud Duck, Good boy Ben, Good Boy.

Makes me sad, I had a Lab that looked exactly like Ben, little turd stole my heart. He was a good Boy too.

I agree with this 110%. There is NOTHING in this life like the love of a dog. When we lost our last lab, Bridger, we went almost 2 years without a dog. Then we got Maggie, an English Setter. and she filled a huge void. Meanwhile, just remember all the great times you shared.
Condolences of the loss of your friend
Good dog Ben!!R.I.P.
So sorry to hear this.
Man, I wish I never had to reply to another of thee posts ever. Damned alergies...

Know that Ben's no longer in pain, and can rest comfortably. Here's to the hope that the next Ben is as good, loyal, and loving as the last. My dad was a tough old S.O.B. who just never showed a soft side, that is until his beloved beagle Belle, finally passed on. She was the best rabbit dog that Dad, or I , or anyone else ever had the pleasure to hunt over. Dad shed a few tears as he put shovel to earth to lay Belle in her final resting spot, an overgrown blackberry tangle in an old chunk of strip mine land where she had brought literally hundreds of rabbits in front of the guns.

I hope you can dwell only on the good memories of Ben's time with you, and not the pain and suffering he endured trying to make you happy. May he rest in peace till you meet again some day.
