What are your favorite movies that center around music/musicians (real or fake).
I liked the following:
Crazy Hearts (with Jeff Bridges)
Rudderless (with Billy Crudrup) excellent movie
Whiplash (J.K. Simmons unbelievably good) not a jazz guy but superb movie
Spinal Tap (of course!)
Crossroads---by far my fave as I'm a blues fan (if you couldnt tell from my screen name). Great writing centered around the Robert Johnson myth, good acting (Robert Seneca NAILS the crusty old bluesman role) and some killer guitar and harp work by Steve Vai, Ry Cooder and Sonny Terry. πΈππ»
Spinal Tap Rock Star Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster The Story Of Anvil Trick Or Treat (dated as hell but great soundtrack by Fastway)
The Last Waltz The Wall Almost Famous Hard Day's Night The Song Remains the Same Streets of Fire - motorcycles, cool lever actions, and a 19 year old Diane Lane!
The Last Waltz The Complete Monterey Pop Festival The Wrecking Crew * This Ain't No Mouse Music * Muscle Shoals * Begin Again * Song Catcher Ain't In It For My Health (Levon Helm) *
As you can probably tell, I really like movies with and about music.
Thanks - led to an interesting thread - causes one to ponder. Seems to be sig differences between movies about particular musicians and/or music genre, movies featuring interesting music in the soundtrack, movies that present a musical show originally written as such - whether for stage or cinema), etc., etc.
