I'm a sports-a-holic.

My main sport was speed skating. I was nationally ranked and had a shot at the Olympic team, but a nasty motorcycle accident shut all that down. For cross training I raced bicycles also.

Swimming was my main competitive sport, was All American in high school. Started downhill skiing when I was three and did a little bit of racing in high school. Raced bicycles in college.

For non competitive sports I climb rocks and ice and still try and get out on both XC and downhill skis.

Only one, gymnastics. I was a ring specialist.

Track, baseball, and basketball.

Beat the 30+ year high jump record in high school and outran most of the black kids in sprints and hurdles.

Some white men CAN jump.

And run and throw and kick and fight, as well.
Martial arts instructor wanted to put me on the 3 point low contact circuit. Said I'd do well in forms competition, too.
I told him no.

I'm from Ohio, so I played football, football, and oh yeah-football. Never was very good, but man did I love it. Didn't letter till senior year-mostly a gift from the coaches for hard work and not getting in quite as much trouble as most of my buddies. The letter didn't matter that much to me-I was happy just starting on the JV team. Lots of injuries on the O and D lines senior year got me some playing time. I stepped on my right guard's ankle while falling back to pass block and broke it. It was the most sickening sound I ever heard. I knew I'd never play college ball, as there wasn't much of a need for 5'9" 185 lbs. white linemen.

RESPECT!!! That takes incredible strength. I loved the rings, but I never could pull off the iron cross; just didn't have the strength.

I kinda sucked at swimming, but I loved it. I was pretty competitive at 200 breast stroke and 100 free; but only competitive, never a star.

But I LOVED the workout. We did 2,500 yards in the morning and 4,000 yards after school. That 2,500 in the morning was like a drug for me. It's the one sport that really gave me the narcotic like high after the workout and I was always in a spectacular mood after my morning workouts.

19 MMA fights. Still train but don't fight anymore.

Last 3 years I've played in a football game that's a fundraiser for a youth home. 1 game, but it's over 2 months of practice getting ready for it.

It's about time to stop but I can't imagine life without some form of physical competition.

Swimming. Year round (age group team when high school season wasn't running).

Still hold the HS record for the 500 Freestyle at 4:46.18 in '03.

Never competed officially outside a few triathlons, but was a damn quick cyclist too.

Was always a distance guy. Couldn't run a 100M sprint to save my life, but swimming the 1,650 (mile) was no problem.

Mainly swimming, my school won 4 straight state championships.

Also track, soccer and hockey.

Track and football put me through college.

The first varsity college football game I ever went to, I caught the opening kickoff.

Punt and kick return, wide receiver, 100, 200, 400 meter sprints.

In high school: Track, ran all the sprints. 4 letters. Football, offensive and defensive end. Preferred defense. Averaged 20 yard receptions(8) on offense. 2 letters.

Just rassled (not leg rasslin' like logcutter did though) and drank beer. Looks like there's many here who have CTE to look forward to in the coming years...

I played football 1 year. Got injured in the summer and never played an organized sport again until college intramurals where my competitiveness finally aligned with sports.

I was always hyper-competitive in other areas such as who could drink the most beer, have the most fun, etc. But that competitiveness didn't come together with sports until undergrad and grad intramurals.

football was what I lived for everything else was just to pass time, dreams of playing college ball went out the window during two a days my senior season.

separated my shoulder and wouldn't give up playing, wore a harness and went on to separate it another 8-9 times during the season.

yep I was still really dumb, but I loved that game and what it taught me about success.

God bless my ole ball coach he was a heckuva guy and I didn't realize his true value at the time.

My mount was a reverse kip to an L cross. Did not compete my senior year, due to singing commitments. Was in the top 10 in PA in my junior year. Was always strong. Not so smart, though...lot of VERY athletic guys on the fire.

Football, baseball and rifle team. I stopped playing football, other than lot games, by the 10th grade. It was hurting too much and I said '[bleep] it'.


At the time I could dribble a ball and I could run, but I couldn't do both at the same time.

Soccer as a kid then football and track. Went to State in the 400 many moons ago.

Raced some BMX and mountain bikes in the 90's. Wrestled one year. Screw around a little at a jj gym.

Always had respect for the guys that were good at pole vaulting.

I did what most kids did on Oahu did, SURF. Most from my High School surfed "Rock Pile" on the Waikiki side of Ala Moana BP.

On weekends we would ride Haleiwa or "Tracks" in Nanakuli.

I played Little League Baseball as a youngster. My dad had an auto salvage and by jr high school I was devoting my time to helping him and Restoring a '72 Monte Carlo. I wrenched my own and a lot of friends cars. Between car stuff and hand loading and shooting, who the heck had time for sports?

I shot on the Pistol team at Colorado School of Trades.
Then I shot on the Minnesota State Service rifle Team. As my eyesight got worse so did my 600 yd scores until I gave it up.

Soccer and field hockey through high school, a little boxing and rugby in college until my senior year when my favorite sport was girls....

Only two things good about skool was the last minute of 7th hour and the girls. I couldn't wait to get home and go fishin'.

Tried that once, broke a pole and ended up with a big shard of fiberglass in my knee; hurt like hell pulling that out.

Football (strong safety - 2 yr letterman, we lost the state championship game my JR and SR years...) and track (pole vaulting - I was decent, lettered all 3yrs of high school, but never great).

Climbing and skiing. Ran cross country in high school for 1 year and found it boring and not conducive to attracting the ladies.

Little league baseball. Only 4 teams in our league. I played pitcher, third base and center field.

Tried basketball in HS. I'm 6'4" so why not? I was a starter at forward but it interfered seriously with deer season. I played 3 games....done pretty good...Then said the hell with it and went hunting.

Absolutely no regrets.

Oddly enough my high school is probably best remembered for curling and women's softball.

I changed thirty six 24.5" semi tires, and moved several more around on trucks by myself with a pair of 10 ton hydraulic jacks, 2 tire bars, a slide hammer, a 1" air gun and a good air compressor one day. Luckily it was in late July so it was only 200 degrees or so.

Was a club swimmer from about the age 6 through HS.

After college I played professional softball for eight years. Won five National Championships.

Still do powerlifting, but because of injuries, I am bench only. A sport you do while lying down! Hold 6 world records at 181 masters, and set the open drug free 181 multiply RPS federation world bench record of 530 at 58 years old. Beat the young guys. Missed a 560 at that meet. Real close. Still low 500's at 61.

Another Rifle Team dude here...Varsity in High School and the NC State Rifle Team was trying to recruit me but it was exactly at a time when I'd broken an ear drum diving off the 5 and 10 meter boards ( which I did not do competitively)
Pretty soon the eardrum abscessed and not much of anything got done for months.


Once healed it was off to a school with a higher girl/boy ratio and the sport became indoor fly fishing....

baseball/softball and pickup football games, but not in highschool, wasn't going to have a coach tell i couldn't dip Copenhagen or drink beer. in junior high they were always trying to get to join the track team because i could beat a lot of the guys on the team, when i would run with them in PE. could run a mile in under 5 minutes in 9th grade.

Little league baseball - sucked at that...I was the kid sitting in right field with his glove on his head, picking dandelion flowers...kept playing, but didn't improve. Went an entire season of at-bats without contacting the ball or getting on base.
Soccer - sucked at that, no running endurance or skill
Golf - sucked at that, but somehow still made the HS team. Coach felt sorry for me and gave me my varsity letter

Work. I am a pretty big guy and was pretty fast for my size. I played football in Junior High and freshman year till My Dad gave me a car with 196k miles on it. He said "That's your baby. U put gas in it. Insure it and pay for the parts. I'll help u fix it but your buying the parts." That ended my sports career cause I liked having wheels WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than football. They were kinda mad when I quit and hounded me in my sophomore and junior year (football coach was my math and gym teacher both years). I just kept telling him I can walk and play football or ride in style in my Sunbird. Also didn't help they wanted me to play O-line and I wanted to be a linebacker. Loved defense much more and to me O-line was boring as hell.

Soccer for a few year (fat kids don't do so well in that)
Baseball for a long time (I had an awful batting average, but if I connected, it would go a long long way. I also pitched, but never mastered the art of not putting everything I had into the pitches...I'd go 2-3 innings MAX)

Track & Field (shot put/discus as well as the occasional "Fat Man's Relay, which ironically, we won once at a meet when 3 out of 4 teams faulted).


If I had to do it all over again, I would, but I'd stick with football. The only reason I stopped 1/2 through HS was because I couldn't stand the coach. I had knee surgery, and he kept me on JV, after telling me I was going varsity for almost a year. I was young and stupid, and should've just gone with it. I chose to hunt and work instead.

Basketball... college team and Saginaw City league. I was a guard. Too short (6'2") to play any other position.

I played football in Pop Warner youth league three years and three years varsity football in high school. I was red shirted in college for one year and never got to play.

I ran track too.

I did a little gymnastics but I could never get the palms of my hands top stop blistering.

I busted through a hole that opened up and ran head up into a LB. I had blood shoot out my nose and my bell was rung. His neck was hurt and needed to be carried of the field. My son won't be playing football. I love baseball and could hit and snag a grounder at 3rd or short. Then I discovered women and beer.......;)
