Struck by a philosophical streak, I was contemplating things that, like myself, used to be quite useful but have now become more or less completely useless.

The first thing that I came up with was phone books. Other suggestions?

Those can may not ruin a good craft brew, but the aesthetics and philosophy of that is wrong!

Pocket knives and bic lighters can be used to open beer bottles, but then they are doubling as bottle openers.

Ya betcha!

It comes with the innanet package from my ISP.

Just don't leave a message on the voice mail.

My local ISP is the phone company and they will not install internet unless you have a land line. They also have a monopoly on internet service unless we use satellite internet.

There is a technical advantage to cans: they are full protection against UV and light struck beer.

Oh, I don't know, Ed. Effective range of 20,000 yards, no batteries or electronics to fail, 60 years old and still going strong. I wouldn't call that useless. JMHO.

If shooters realize laser emissions can bring fire on your position some of those old rangefinders may become valuable again.

I don't know about that, I like using Road Atlas and maps for my trips. I also help the scouts learn to read and use maps and compass. I will never fully trust a GPS and carry 2 compass's in my back pack.

Maybe, but beer or any drink tastes better out of glass. In fact I damn near refuse to drink coffee out of a Styrofoam cup. On the other hand, the oldest Girl prefers it that way and we keep Styrofoam cups on hand for her. miles
