Down almost 2000 feet

I didn't know there were sperm whales in the Gulf of Mexico!
They say the Gulf sperm whales don't leave the Gulf.
I've never seen a killer whale in the Gulf but they say there are more than a few.

Only whales I've ever seen in the Gulf have been pilot whales.
Incredible footage!

Was observing how compressed the body is at those depths.

...and I didn't know the Gulf of Mexico got as deep as 2,000 ft.
200 miles southeast of Brownsville the water is 12,000 feet deep.
I was about 120 miles offshore from Port Aransas, Texas about 10 years ago and a pod of killer whales came by the boat! Very cool experience.

i remember that, it was on the local news, killer whales are rare in the gulf.
That was cool.

I was putting away dinner stuff during the last minute or two, but didn't here any of those folks mention anything about why it was there.

Perhaps, detecting some light at that depth triggered a hunting instinct?

Hmm, what is that, can I eat it?

Lot's of biological training makes me think there's only a few overriding instincts, sex, predator avoidance and Eating!

Cool video T&C, thanks

Geno
