Defeatism a comfortable mantle on your shoulders ?

...wear it, Mister,...don't expect much by way of synchronized cheering for practicality or stylishness.

Might as well curl up in a fetal position, like a big 'ole baby.

Grow a pair.

Only way to go.

BTW, It's not even close to "up", it's getting there but it can be stopped.

I'm sure someone has studied why all those empires eventually failed. Is there a common thread? What is it? If we knew, we could avoid it.

I will only be convinced the U.S. is done when I'm in a smoldering pile of dirty dusty chit taking my last breaths. smile

I think the U.S. has changed.

Public opinion and voting has turned socialist.

The government doesn't serve the people any longer.

The press has no sense of duty to honesty or truth anymore.

Public schools are nothing more than socialist indoctrination centers run by government now. Our kids are the future, and we are seeing what that reaps now.

We'd better make a start towards turning that around, or it will be changed permanently.

And I think you are selling your people short on this, give them more credit.

I do.

When you're at the top of the heap everyone wants in on the action. The problem is that the ones wanting in on the action weren't capable of building that empire themselves, otherwise they would have. The empire can't sustain itself after it's taken in all of the neighbors wanting a free ride and collapses. It's what happened to Rome, the British Empire, and it's what's happening to America. The ones running America today aren't the same type of people that made it great. We've got a government more concerned about redistributing wealth based upon someone's skin tone than allowing industry to create jobs. The same government is more concerned about using the military as a springbox for advancing homosexual rights than winning wars. Winning wars is far down the list of priorities for our military right now.

Basically the leadership of our country has been usurped and we're now being looted.

The same reason most family run businesses fail after a few generations. The first generation builds the business, the second generation holds on but without putting in much effort, and the third generation tends to squander the wealth with no appreciation for what it took to gain the wealth in the first place.

That mindset runs throughout this country, from the ghetto to the suburbs to the mansions. By and large the populace of this country has no appreciation for the blood, sweat and tears that made this country great and they are willing to squander that greatness.

Almost every last empire committed suicide by getting complacent, lazy and too centralized government bound. Sound familiar?

Capitalism and democracy: the strain is showing - Financial Times

Quote
Meanwhile, those of us who wish to preserve both liberal democracy and global capitalism must confront serious questions. One is whether it makes sense to promote further international agreements that tightly constrain national regulatory discretion in the interests of existing corporations. My view increasingly echoes that of Prof Lawrence Summers of Harvard, who has argued that “international agreements [should] be judged not by how much is harmonised or by how many barriers are torn down but whether citizens are empowered”. Trade brings gains but cannot be pursued at all costs.

Above all, if the legitimacy of our democratic political systems is to be maintained, economic policy must be orientated towards promoting the interests of the many not the few; in the first place would be the citizenry, to whom the politicians are accountable. If we fail to do this, the basis of our political order seems likely to founder.
