Not really. Currently there are two governments in Mexico, the one in Mexico City and the Cartels. I'd guess he's going to offer to clean out the Cartels if the "legit" government will work with him on illegal immigration, drugs and taco recipes.

It's ostensibly an immigration speech. But what he's really doing is lining up laborers to work on his tall wall that they're gonna pay for.

Time to wake up and note Trump's style of negotiation. He starts at an absurdly advantageous position (We will build a wall and make YOU pay for it), gets the other side all amped up, and then throttles back to make the best deal from there.

It's the real estate approach gone to politics. He wants to buy a $500,000 house. Owner lists it at $625,000. Trump offers $300,000. Owner is miffed and breaks off negotiations. Trump lets him sit on it for 6 weeks, if there are no nibbles he goes back and offers $395k. Owner comes down to $525k. Trump says $425 is his last offer, and they end up closing the deal at $450K.

Same with immigration. Trump says no more Muslims. Tough to enforce that one, but it is a ploy to scale back all immigration.

Don't think he doesn't have this all calculated. He might calculate wrong, but he's not shooting from the hip without a plan as some might think.

This is exactly how the wealthiest man in our little 'burg became what he is after starting his working career as one of the local 'home delivery milk men' in the 60/70's.

I have watched him make ludicrous offers on properties and wait it out. Most of those he wound up getting and developing. Did the same to get his oceanfront home. It took him 3 years from the date of his initial offer only to end paying less than the first offer.
Some will never understand.

Mexican immigration is but Central American immigration is waaay up. That is why Trump was brilliant today. He tied it all in to security for both countries and specifically mentioned the southern Mexican border. Closing our border eliminates a lot of the problems the Mexicans in the south.

Hell, the Mexican president more or less agreed in his statement that a wall was necessary.

In one fricking meeting, Trump got the Mexican president to agree at a press conference attended by the international press that NAFTA can be reopened. One meeting! Trump listed his five goals and called them, without contradiction from the Mexican president, "our shared goals".
