i enjoy their music. i saw them in late 80's and they were spectacular. i also went and saw The Pink Floyd Experience at a small venue last year and it was really good. they matched the album music note for note, albeit with a lot more musicians. i would highly recommend them for any floyd fan and will see them anytime they come around.
I've been a fan since the late '70s when I was in High school. David Gilmore is one of my favorite guitar players. I really enjoy the live in Pompeii concert. You can watch it on youtube.
Yup. Saw the Floyd live in Venice in 1989. They played on a floating stage right outside our room at the Danieli Hotel. We hung out with Dutch TV and partied with Duran Duran and ....
Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls? Mother should I build the wall? Mother should I run for president? Mother should I trust the government? Mother will they put me in the firing line?
Recorded "The Wall" on cassette off late night radio. I didn't care for it, but a kid I was working with wanted it so bad he offered to trade me a badly Bubbed Siamese Mauser for that cassette. Head space was so bad in that gun that you could actually hear the cartridge rattle if you shook the rifle back and forth. Laid it between a couple of straw bales and fired it with a string from a safe place, no problems. I sold it to Shapels Gun Shop over in Boise, for parts. IIRC he gave me $60 for it, and 3/4 box of Norma 7.7.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a leading role in a cage?
This is like the final exam of our character, I think!

My favorite. On Friday/Saturday nights, college days, we would turn off the lights, a bit tweaked of mind, light a candle on the coffee table and pound my pretty substantial stereo system to The Wall front to back and this song was my favorite. Remarkable album.
Good times, at least the times I can remember. Spent an evening and night and morning with my girlfriend and her roommate "listening" to the movie on VHS from the bedroom.

Just wondered how many others here love Pink Floyd?
Well, I can tell you this. If it's the middle of the night in a parking lot at a Grateful Dead concert in Wisconsin where thousands upon thousands of fellow miscreants are camping, and you just sucked down a big balloon of medical grade nitrous and are utterly blazed, and there's a Pink Floyd live bootleg playing on somebody's boom box (this is the 80's) and it's a cassette and it's insane, they are just going APESHÏT and it's all very psychedelic........... and then the tape ends suddenly...... and at that moment the whole WORLD ends because Pink Floyd going apeshît was the whole world, and it's a legitimate question whether you just died, or what the hell......
All of us are big Pink Floyd fans. I used to put little Mooseboy to sleep listening to Echos. KYHillCHick barely knew them when she first showed up. She's completely hooked.
Angus? The Ball Family Reunion is held down on the KY/TN line every year. The Ball Brothers used to be big down that way. The reunion used to be about getting those old guys on stage and playing, but they have all died off now, and the younger generation is more Rock-oriented than Bluegrass. Last year at the reunion, Angus did his Bluegrass thing at the formal reunion, and then was asked by some of the band to visit a rock gig being held at another local venue. Angus showed up with his guitar and was invited up on the stage to play.
He was asked what he wanted to play. Wish You Were Here segued to Sweet Home Alabama.
Most nights I go to sleep with Angus downstairs playing Pink Floyd on his Strat.

The fact that Waters was always trying to make political statements drove Gilmour nuts.
None of them. Syd Barrett, one of the original band members, thought up the name at the spur of the moment. Barrett had the blues records of 2 musicians in his collection: PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council, and the name is derived from them.
I don't know why I call him Gerald. He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse.
The Sid Barrett days were a different time and a different band. Pink Floyd that most know would not exist without the rest of the guys watching Sid lose the plot.
My wife and I saw Roger Waters perform The Wall a few years back in Austin. It was about as close as a 38 year could come to seeing Floyd live.

Don't be a gay!
It's a lyric from Have a Cigar, genius.
Two gays!!! Wow! There's one in the spot light he don't look right to me.
Pink Floyd is the most overrated band in history, I think their music ain't that great. I am told you have to be high to appreciate it. I wouldn't know.

With your head up your azz, as is typical, I don't expect you could appreciate their music.

CC aint too bright.
from wiki:
"Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. Distinguished by their use of philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, extended compositions and elaborate live shows, they are one of the most commercially successful and influential groups in the history of popular music."

If I remember correctly, when the Berlin wall fell the band approached Roger Waters about doing the Wall concert there, but Waters wanted nothing to do with it. A friend of mine saw them in concert in Germany when she was in the USArmy and when they played the song "Be Careful With That Axe Eugene" they "beheaded" a girl on stage, all a prop of course, but she said with the light affects it looked incredibly real, she did tell me she was under the influence of something at the concert also

They generally are placed in the top five rock bands of all time with a number of lists placing them third right behind the Beatles and Rolling Stones.

IMNSHO - Dark Side of the Moon is one of the greatest musical works of all time. But we'll have to see how well it's appreciated in another 100-200 years.
The Dark Side of the Moon was an immediate success; it topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide.
I'd say that they were a little successful... 14 years on the charts for one album!

Time will tell. Very few albums have topped the charts as long as DSOTM. Years ago I was fortunate enough to hear Alan Parsons' original discrete 4 channel mix of the album. Quite amazing! That discrete 4 channel mix was only released on 8 track tape (in small numbers) in the UK, until it was finally "officially" released in the 2011 re-issue of the album. More info here:
I think it would have been awesome had they combined The Wall part 1, The Happiest Days of our Lives, The Wall part 2, and The Wall Part 3 into one song. That would be an epic jam!
