A friend of the family posted an item about the incident on Facebook and it wasn’t long before the Walmart store manager called the police officer’s wife and daughter — and apologized.

“He said he was so sorry,” the daughter told me. “He offered to make the cake free of charge and he gave me a $50 gift card.”

A Walmart corporate spokesperson confirmed most of the story.

“Our goal is to always take care of customers,” the spokesperson told me. “But, sometimes we misstep. We’re glad we were able to connect with the family to apologize and make this right.”

Walmart did not say if one of their associates called the cake racist.

So, tell me why we should boycott Walmart again. Lots of people seem to hate Walmart for lots of reasons, most not valid. They are good at what they do, but I see lots of ways a person could do it better and take a market share or two away from them, if they wanted to do something besides gripe. miles

The USA with 350 million people has a tiny, tiny percentage of folks that give gunowners a bad name. Walmart has a tiny, tiny percentage of its 2 million employees that make stupid decisions.
Seems you could find a better reason to boycott them, if that's your decision, than the referenced issue.
Walmart backs Hillary Clinton.

Posted By: Mikewriter Re: Boycott Walmart! - 09/26/16
Used to know a lady who was a Wal Mart stockholder, back when Bill Clinton was in office, She said Hillary was on their board of directors at a very generous salary, although company records did not show her ever attending any board meetings or otherwise taking an active role. Her speculation was that this started when Bill was governor, and was just a business decision to buy off the wife of the governor of the state where your corporate headquarters was located.

Let's see if I have this right. Some folks here want us all to boycott Walmart, and Target, and Sears, and Wendy's, and Chick-Fil-A, and Outback Steakhouse, and Levi's, and Chevy, and Ford, and Smith & Wesson, and Ruger, and...

So tell me, where do you guys buy anything?

I personally have never been inside a Walmart store, Nor will I ever go into a Walmart store. What is there saying, live better buy Walmart, they pay their employees [bleep] put them on a 35 hour work week no benefits, help them get government assistance, food stamps. Treat them like garbage, I knew a person that was a manager for them for a short time. Yet the Waltons are filthy rich.

The Walmart stores that sold firearms stopped stocking "assault" type guns in late August of last year but continued to sell conventional sporting type guns. Their claim as to why was because sales of that style guns had dropped significantly.

To my knowledge Walmart stopped selling handguns a good many years ago.

So many inaccuracies here. Typical of those that don't take the time to check the facts.
#1 The motto is Save Money, Live Better.
#2 Wal-Mart's wages are competitive with the other big box retailers. If they weren't, people wouldn't work there.
#3 35 hours a week is considered full time and qualifies an associate for all benefits, including insurance.

Yes, the Waltons are very wealthy. So is Bill Gates, Donald Trump, the Busch's and many others that have worked hard for their money.

And having willingly done that, they then attempted to further their profit-making foray at my expense for trying to get another 1000%.

I have no use for a business which makes their own bad behavior overshadow that of my own offspring. It's pretty hard to try to tell your own kid how wrong they were in their actions when they see stuff like that.

They didn't get rich by losing money...how many layoffs have they had the last eight years? You do realize that when they raise their operating cost because of govt. mandated health coverage the cost of staying in business goes up right? When they raise wages, their cost for unemployment taxes and workers comp goes up right? When their costs go up, who are the costs passed on to? You got to remember too, that nowadays, a lot of people really trying to save money shop for a lot of stuff on-line. If Walmart were to go tits up, it would put a whole schittload of people out of work...Hey, I got a GREAT idea!!! Let's raise their corporate taxes another 50% and see how well THAT works out...Maybe Al Gore or Hillary can get the green police on them and start taxing them for all the carbon based emissions their customers are emitting???

Please explain how Walmart is any worse than other retailers. Retail is an awful place to work and it's ridiculous to expect to make a living wage working at it unless you feel you can become a manager. Even then, it's no picnic, fraught with uncertainty, and a poor life choice.

Calling absolute total BS on this. I've sat in on many shoplifting interventions at Wal-Mart and that absolutely does not happen. They don't need to make 100% on the $7.97 worth of stuff your kid took. Policies and procedures don't even allow a scam like that.

I'm just saying spend your dollars elsewhere when you can as they don't care about the cops that come when they call. Seems there's always one parked in front for a shoplifter or whatever.

You lost me with this one. If there is a shoplifter, the have as much right to be protected by the law as any other store, or person. Then cop could be inside getting a bag of donuts, who knows.

I know a lot of people here have a hard on for Walmart, and them putting Mom and Pop out of business, but my take is a little different. Mom and Pop got old, and JR. put them out of business. People wanting to spend less for throw away junk instead of more for better quality, put them out of business. Lots of reasons that Mom and Pop went out of business and Walmart doing things more cost effective is one of them, but they have cracks in their Armor if one was willing to put up the money and find them. miles

If it wasn't walmart putting mom and pop out of business it would somebody else. The times changed and most folks don't want to spend there weekend driving to 10 stores to pick up 10 things.

I don't like the trend, but blaming McDonalds and Walmart for giving folks what they clearly want doesn't make sense.

Our local Walmart was my only source of powder until just recently when a gun store opened here.

I think Walmart is great. Keeps those people from shopping where I shop.....

You paid it to keep your kid from suffering consequences of his bad behavior. Way to go, superdad.

Keep waiting, but I did get a $3,600 bonus at Christmas last year, The whole crew got something. let's see what they do this year. Plus I get $10 over scale and 50 bucks a day gas and tolls :-) I guess they can afford it!

You are a hard one, Walmart apologized for one employee's bias, and offered to make the cake, and you want to boycott? So as much as the left hates Walmart, all they need to do is plant one employee in a Walmart and have them shout "down with the pigs" and you want to boycott them?

Oh yes let's boycott Walmart and go buy guns and ammo at Sears or KMart....

Oops every other large general retail chain in the country caved to the gun grabbers decades ago and stopped selling all guns and ammo. That's right 100% cave in decades ago.

So instead of showing WM some appreciation for standing up to the leftist morons and carrying some guns and ammo many in the gun owner community complain that they choose not to carry AR type rifles.

IMO having a major retailer continue to carry a limited variety of guns and ammo is better than nothing.
