WTF is going on with all these people protesting and supporting the protests in ND?

People who I considered to be highly functioning, non idiots are posting on FB and other places about how this pipeline needs to be stopped and it is racism against Native Americans, even though it doesn't go through any Indian land.

Do they not use petroleum? Drive, fly, heat their homes? What am I missing? A pipeline seems to be about the safest way to transport oil cross country, no? Would they rather see rail cars full of crude coming through their towns? What gives?

Seriously, I have an open mind about this. If there is something nefarious about this pipeline as compared to the 2 million miles of other pipelines in the US, I'd sure like to know WTF it is!
More info starting to come out about this whole thing and the standing rock folks are looking bad.. when the oil company and army corp engineers were developing this they invited the tribe several meetings but the tribe never showed up. They changed the route of the pipeline several times to avoid burial sites etc. the oil company wanted to run a portion of the pipeline on the reservation (this is where the greed of the reservation came into play) the oil company was going to pay the standing rock tribe 10 million dollars for this easement. But the tribe wanted 30 million dollars, oil company said no thanks and went another route. This whole water buisness is just bullshit. The standing rock tribe try to do a shakedown on the oil company and they lost..
They're paid protestors. 9 out of 10 arrests are out of state. The weather has turned against them, and they're begging for firewood and tents on FB now. The tribes want them to go home.
Look at how the election went. Even factoring in a lot of cheating by the commies, lots of people voted for Hillary. It isn't a one-to-one thing, but a lot of those same people are supporting the protestors. It's low to no information voting and protesting along with fake news.

"Buffalo magically appeared to support the protestors,". Etc.

A lot of people are mad about the bs about the water in Flint too. This ties in with that in their minds.
There's much we are not being told by big media. Shocked? You shouldn't be. Here's a few excerpts, link to follow.

"The record shows that Energy Transfer Partners, the company building the pipeline, spent years working diligently with federal, state and local officials to route the pipeline safely and with the fewest possible disruptions. The contrast between the protesters’ claims and the facts on record is stunning.

Protesters claim that the pipeline was “fast-tracked,” denying tribal leaders the opportunity to participate in the process. In fact, project leaders participated in 559 meetings with community leaders, local officials and organizations to listen to concerns and fine-tune the route. The company asked for, and received, a tougher federal permitting process at sites along the Missouri River. This more difficult procedure included a mandated review of each water crossing’s potential effect on historical artifacts and locations."

"The record shows that the corps held 389 meetings with 55 tribes."

"The corps alerted the tribe to the pipeline permit application in the fall of 2014 and repeatedly requested comments from and meetings with tribal leaders only to be rebuffed over and over. Tribal leaders ignored requests for comment and canceled meetings multiple times."

"He did not mention, possibly because he did not know, that the company is paying to relocate the tribe’s water intake to a new spot 70 miles from the location of the contested pipeline crossing."

For those that care--we are currently, right now, getting one of the badder early winter blizzards in recent memory right smack on top of the protest area!

It's about the money. As stated above, the tribe tried to shake down the company for permitting access across the reservation. Instead of taking the easy $10 million, they went for either $30 or 50 million, depending on who you believe.

The company played that game a little bit better, and simply re-routed the pipeline a mile north of the reservation on federal and private land, for which they were granted all necessary permitting.

The tribe is very upset that they could not blackmail the company for more money, so now they are trying to extort the process. Even they do not know what they want now, except that they love the worldwide attention it brings.
Now that tribe going to be stuck with a hefty clean up bill, have to try and mend the relationship with the sherif department and the locals..
Sounds like the tribal extortion paid out here in Wisconsin. Don't give enough tax incentives, don't forgive taxes on casino's...well then we will broaden the spring walleye spearing until the bag limit for white guys is 1...or start a night-deer hunting season.

Few decades back we had protests...maybe similar in size, adjusted for inflation over the re-intro to walleye spearing. Bunch a snowflakes showed up for that too, I guess to find their inner spirit animals.

My dad was there, US Marshall at the time, brought home a bunch of cool cement walleyes that were in the shallows. Make great doorstops. Sure they would be fun to hit with a spear as well

Fences were cut to let those buffalo through and some had to be shot, resulting in losses to the owners. I have quite a few friends in the immediate area and they are very exasperated with the outside influence that is being a pain in the butt. The bishop of the Western North Dakota Synod of the ELCA even issued a response to the ELCA Presiding Bishop's statement which speaks to the detrimental effect the protests are having on the local residents and economy - which is contrary to the Presiding Bishop's call to action on this front. It must be one heck of a mess up there.
But you can't do that, you're wounding Mother Earth! (psst, what's it worth to ya?)

Actually there are some critical thinkers who believe their own propaganda - it needn't be rational.
AS much as I'd love to side with the underdog, I can't but help thinking that the underdog is one and the same (via demand for and use of oil) as the big dog (Big Oil). And besides everyone involved is a human, and humans - all of them- are prone to something called 'human greed'. So I trust none of it until and unless there is more clarity among the facts. Too many people seem to own their own facts.

It almost seems as disingenuous as protesting Monsanto while complaining about high food prices.
White guilt combined with people loving an underdog. However if you bother to research at all the Natives are way in the wrong as they are just after a payoff and nothing else.
Well...Pay em off. With more water from the fire department. That storm should help. I hope they brought ice skates!
I myself think that Sheriff should run for US Senate. We need more guys like him in Washington DC.
They are in about a foot of snow right now. Temps in the twenties. Going to get below zero after a few days. Problem will solve itself i believe. Bunch of out of state buttheads causing trouble. I think a few more should blow their arms off. ED K
As my Grandma always said, "A couple weeks of 20 below keeps the riff raff out."

Uhhyup...Looking forward to hopefully getting some cold weather here in Alaska, getting to be way too many people moving up and thinking it's easy living....

GFY to all those moronic protesters....
Just watched the local news. 12 million spent so far on the protest and they just allotted 7 million more for costs. Mostly for all the law enforcement . Friggen indians. ED K
16 degrees tonight, single digits next week. I bet they'll be burning some fossil fuels to keep warm.

Exactly the way I see it, mother nature will take care of everything but the trash they leave behind. Anyone who thinks this is anything but a shakedown by the tribe, I've got a good deal on some beach front property in Arizona for sale.

The downside of inside plumbing, central heating and paved roads. frown
Tell me again which pipeline is the bad one?????

the sad story of the 'low information voter' continues to stun normal people.
I saw on the news here 20 people in a bus from California were stopped in Casper ,Wyoming. One was arrested and the rest held till the police figured out who owned the pile of illegal drugs in the Bus. The bus was full of "Protestors" headed to the Pipeline protest.
It use to be that if you had a need to serve your fellow man, you joined the peace corp, the military or some other Cause. Nowadays, people think showing up and and trashing a site in the name of Protesting is "Good" for all of us?????
a lot of humans on the earth now don't have a clue. especially the urban peoples. their beliefs are not sustainable without the working class who provides goods & services across the board.

a die-off might be in order?

anyways, those folks need to go home, back to their families prior to freezing to death.

it's a little too late for their current actions. but, i do believe they are well-intentioned.
Let the dumbphucks freeze, it'd be funny.

We screwed up in not allowing Sheridan to drive every last Indian into Canada.
We now have in America a paid class of anarchists who will protest anything in the socialist agenda.
The Trump years are going to be entertaining and enlightening.
There are not many Natives actually protesting at the site. They aren't that foolish. It's mostly paid outside rioters.
And that's who I'd love to see freeze.

Of course it will never happen.
I'm pretty comfy these days working indoors. But I do wonder does the pay scale increase for protesting in NODAK in the winter? I mean McDonald's pays a third shift bonus, so what does Soros pay for winter work in the big lonesome?

That's pretty good, the cement walleyes. I imagine more than a few spears were bent.

Oh, I'd imagine. I'll try to remember to take a pic when I visit dad over the holidays. Perfect profile for a 22" spawning walleye. Painted black except for the eyes with white glow paint.

Makes me laugh thinking about jabbing a spear into one. Apparently more than a few were removed.
The pipeline will be completed as soon as Obama leaves office. The hippies don't fit well here. Republicans hold every state office and have 81-13 House and 38-9 senate majorities. Our only democrat, Senator Hietkamp, is pro gun, pro oil, and pro law enforcement.

I actually feel bad for the people of Standing Rock, most understand the damage that has been done, politically and economically. Their casino will probably be closed within three years. The tribal leadership miss-played their hand big time and they know it. Their will be hard feelings both ways for a long time.

As for the paid liberal protesters that think this is their Woodstock, many will learn the hard way. Winter is coming and the coyotes got to eat too.
