Even though my beloved Seattle Seahawks aren't going to be in the upcoming Super-Bowl LI I think this is going to be one of the best Super-Bowl match ups ever!
I mean these two teams (the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots!) are tuned up!
They are smokin!
I watched both play-off games yesterday and I was awestruck at how great both the Patriots and the Falcons played - they simply DEMOLISHED their rivals.
Both of whom were excellent teams!
I am still shaking my head at the all-around excellence of yesterdays winners!
They both look invincible to me.
Alas though, one team will win - but I can not pick a winner or even a favorite.
Who do you favor - or who are you rooting for?
Better luck next year Seahawks - get healthy.

I gotta pick Atlanta.
I hope my squares come in ! I can use the money. smile
Pulling for the Falcons but expecting the Patriots to walk away with the Lombardi.
Jpretle: An Atlanta win would bring some "cred" back to my Seahawks (who lost to Atlanta 2 weeks ago) - they looked super yesterday.
And they are healthy.
I don't really know who to root for - I guess I will just be content to watch great athletes hammer it out on the field.

After some difficulty I got through to one odds-maker and they list the Atlanta Falcons as 3 point "under-dogs".

The SeaChickens fans are going for ATL, and Goodell will be embarrassed if NE win, so I'll pull for the Pats
Atlanta but I expect a close game with the Pats pulling it out at the end.
As long as the Seachickens are watching from their homes, it's definitely a GREAT super bowl...
Gotta go with Atlanta
Wait. What happened to the dynasty?

Thought is was booked?
I have tickets, probably sell them.

Oops. That's what I meant. Thinking he has 4 and that's what came out of my fingers.

Colorado bob: I can tell this story on myself now (because the statue of limitations has long passed!) concerning Football 100 square boards.
I was a young policeman (1969-ish) in a west coast city and even $1.00 a square boards were illegal there then!
So my beat walking partner came up with an "under-ground" football board for $100.00 per square with 5 winners (1st quarter score, second quarter score, third quarter score, final score and the fifth was total score added up from each of the previous) so we thought we had a chance at some big bucks but neither of us could come up with the hundred - so we pooled $50.00 each and bought one set of numbers.
Our hearts soared when we got good numbers as this was a LOT of money back then!
Alas just a couple of days before the Super-Bowl the place my partner had bought the numbers got raided (by our own Vice Detectives!) and our money got confiscated!
Damn!
Luckily my partner had used an alias to buy the square and he (and I!) did not get "jammed-up"!
I wish you good luck in the numbers draw.

Hope for Atlanta, but if forced to put any money on it the pick would be New England. Would be hard to bet against a team with a coach named Bill Belichick. He's probably worth most of the spread himself.
Patriots.
Falcons.

I don't want to see the "Cheating" Patriots win again.

Same reason I'm pulling for the Pats.
Pats is my guess.

Brady retires then

Brady to HOF as the greatest QB ever.

Just a guess.

Brady is playing till he's 45yr old he has no intentions of retiring win, lose or draw
Atlanta by 13

Go Falcons!
Falcons!!!
I'm a Pats fan so I'm going with them. If Atlanta wins I won't be rioting and burning cars though. Matt Ryan has taken a lot of schitt and if they win it was well earned and deserved. Should be a great game if nothing else.
The SeaChickens beat the PatRiots and lost to the Falcons in recent weeks. I pick Atlanta.

In 2015 at the age of 38 he said he would like to play another 10 years.
After how he looked yesterday, I believe him.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

This alone would be worth the price of admission.

Dave
I wouldn't be surprised to see any close or questionable call go Atlanta's way in the game.

The Zebras may be told to spare Goodell the embarrassment of having to face Brady on the podium.

Go Pats!
Hogan has been a big game play maker his whole life, and is finally coming in into his own in the nfl.

He'll be good for 2 or 3 to put the pats over the top.

Matt Ryan has taken a lot of schitt and if they win it was well earned and deserved. Should be a great game if nothing else.

Ryan has been a top 5 QB for a long time but never had the tools to work with until this year and has been largely ignored by people who don't see him play every week. In years past he had 1-2 good or even great receivers. But no O line, no running game and no defense. He was criticized for turnovers, but when running for his life and the only receiver he trusted being double covered he tried to force some throws.

He caught a lot of heat for not winning playoff games when he got there. But most of those were in years when they were lucky to be in the playoff's and IIRC 3 of his 4 playoff loses were to eventual SB winners. That is a tough draw in the 1st round.

Talent wise Atlanta could win big. But the Patroits are very well coached and experienced. I wouldn't put money on this game, it could go either way but I will pull for Atlanta.

On the other hand I respect any team that can be as good, for as long as the Patriots have been. I can't say that I really like them. But I respect what they have accomplished. The talk about cheating is very much overstated by folks who are jealous. I wouldn't be too upset to see history made with another ring for Brady as long as the Falcons make him play the best game of his career to earn it.

Im pulling for Ryan but the Patriots have the best QB, Coach and Team there has ever been.

After Bradys first TD pass yesterday, he spiked the ball like it was his first NFL score.

Im afraid he wants another ring bad.

The Patriots offense plays like a huge giant with 22 hands. Their defense does the same.

Falcons are in for a very rough game.
Patriots all the way! but I would have no problem with Atlanta winning a clean, hard, fought well played game.

Watching Goodell hand over the trophy would be priceless!

The sustained high level of performance the Patriots organization has achieved since 2000 is something to be respected.

I would really like to see both Belichick and Brady stand alone with the only record that truly matters.... Championships.
If I was betting...Patriots

Hope the Falcons win.

Provided no one gets hurt it should be an awesome game.

31-27 Falcons for the win!

Falcons get to Brady.

Brady implodes and lashes out at offensive line.

Falcons win!
Should be a great game! If the Falcons can't get to Brady, it's gonna be a race!
Falcons. But not by much.

I wuz hoping for the fudge packers vs sea-chickens in SB, but called falcons 45 -10 over packers. Packers actually surprised me with that extra 7. Those boys need some defense!
Nothing good comes from Assachussetts.

Going with ATL.
Falcons all of the way. The Matty Ice - Julio Jones show will light the Cheateriots up.
Hard to go against the Pats....
PoconoJack: Around my small town today the sentiments were for the Atlanta Falcons but the reality was aboard with the New England Patriots.
I don't know - I just hope the game is as good as I think it should be.
I had almost forgotten about the "extra" motivations that Tom Brady is most likely filled with this year.
Hoping for a good game and hoping no one gets hurt.
May the best team win.
I just LOVE football - and my favorite teams did quite well this year (the Seattle Seahawks, the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Washington Huskies).
Remember the Seattle Seahawks beat both the Atlanta Falcons AND the New England Patriots earlier this year - then the injuries came and the Falcons achieved near perfection for the playoffs.
I don't know if any other team beat both Super-Bowl LI participants this year?
Oh well theres always next year.

And the Packers beat Seattle by three touchdowns before the injuries. laugh

So, I guess a person can throw out most all the regular season games. They don't mean a whole lot in the playoffs.
Not a Pats fan, so I'm guessing Pats in a close one. Brady is playing with a chip on his shoulder, I suspect he dreams of taking the trophy from Goodell with a big a$$ "up your's" grin on his face. That said, the Falcons look REALLY good and Ryan is up for his moment in the sun. Will be a good one whoever wins!
Idared: You are EXACTLY WRONG in your post!
The Packers won that game there in Green Bay on December 11th by 28 points (I think thats 4 touchdowns?) and December 11th was exactly at the height of Seattles injuries!
I hope you don't mind being corrected!
No "a person can NOT throw out all the regular season games"!
Winning a certain number of "regular season games" is how a team gets into the playoffs - which I believe the Seattle Seahawks have done for 5 (five!) years in a row now?
I'll say it again the Seattle Seahawks had a very good year considering their way above average number of injuries to key players!
By the way did you come up with any other teams this year that beat BOTH Super-Bowl LI participants like the Seahawks DID?
GO SEAHAWKS!

I'm thinkin we may have a ball game

Atlanta has lots of weapons on offense

But the Patriots defense is much better than Green Bay's

Brady knows how to use all the pieces in his offense as well

Patriots amaze me, now that's a freakin dynasty for any confused in the northwest as to what dynasty actually means

What they've accomplished during the cap years and free agency is every bit as impressive as what gb teams did during the Lombardi years, perhaps even more so
VG

I stand corrected, it was a 4 touchdown win for the Packers.

I also looked at the box score for that game. Who didn't play for the Hawks because of injury in that game?

I realize you have to win games to be in the playoffs. What I meant, and poorly worded it, is you can't compare scores of regular season games and prove anything during the playoffs. Case in point, you are correct in saying the Hawks beat the Falcons during the regular season. They also lost to the Saints whom the Falcons beat twice. The Hawks lost to and tied the Cardinals who the Falcons beat by 19 points. The Packers also lost to the Falcons in the closing seconds by a single point but beat the Hawks by 4 touchdowns.

In the end what does this all prove? Not much in my book, and that's why I give little credence to the Hawks beating both Atlanta and New England during the regular season. If it makes you feel good, that's fine, but to me it really doesn't prove anything as I doubt they could beat either Atlanta or New England at this time of the year.

You stole my thoughts! wink
I sure would like to see the Falcons win, but if I had money on this game, it would be put on the Patriots.

If the falcons have a shot, it is to find another weapon for ryan to use that isn't Julio Jones. Jones will be double/tripled by the Pats DBacks, that's how they win, they take away your #1 weapon.

Against the Steelers the D-line didn't really try to penetrate against the run because the running back (drawing a blank on his name) is the most patient runner waiting for the line to open a hole. So Pats D-line just held their ground and waited.

they doubled the #1 receiver making him a non-factor and Big Ben was left with no weapons to use.

Brady has lost his mobility except a short step up, but he is a master at spreading the ball around so who do you cover? You have to cover them all and you can't.
Falcons.
Brady and Belichick having two weeks to prepare isn't good for the opposition along with the experience of playing in the big game. I figure they can come up with a way to slow the Falcons offense down enough to win.

I'm not a New England fan, but it is impressive how year after year they simply reload and get right back into the mix. Heck, they don't even have Gronk for this one, but found a way to get back to the SB.
I'll take the seahawks, Tim. Oh. They're not playing? Hmm.

Then I'll take the experience of the Patriots to win over the Falcons. But deep down, I'll be rooting for Jones and Ryan to earn a ring.
Pats will manage the clock, lots of runs, dink and dunk passing and efficient long drives. Pats are very good at taking away what the other team does best - that mean keeping Matt Ryan on the bench. Should be a good one but I still think Brady's desire to take that trophy from Goodell's hands will be the difference. Pats are on a mission that is bigger than the game.
Lonny: You touch on an excellent point - the Patriots do so well year after year I thought "the N.F.L. draft" was supposed to help instill parity and promote equality of opportunity amongst all teams?
Maybe the general manager and administration of the Patriots is also superior (along with their players) and that keeps them in constant contention for the very top?
Anyway good for them - maybe other teams will learn something from the Patriots policies, picks and administrative personnel.
Plus they don't have to deal with colon krapernick being on their team.

I'll be pulling for the hometown Birds. They are unlike any Atlanta Falcon team I've witnessed in 40+ years. I'm not impressed by the defense (who plays great D anymore?) but they do not take their foot off the gas offensively.

Hard to bet against Brady, but he has lost 3 SuperBowls too.

He's lost 2 Superbowls, both to Eli and the Giants during his career. I'd take 4 and 2 in the big show over not making it at all I guess. With 7 trips now, win or lose, that's a major accomplishment that has never occurred until now.
Sell this weekend at the peak.

I wouldn't want to be an Atlanta player or member of the coaching staff next week. Coach has been busy. Those Falcons will be breaking out in boils, itching with crabs, suffering from ptomaine poisoning, parking tickets, excessive hair loss, low T, IRS audits, there will be no end.

I will be more than happy to dig up your dirt! It's not far away!!

At least your little okok cock twin knew when to check out.
Best play of the game will be the last one, and the freak show will be over for another year, and we can stop hearing about it!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no dog in the fight.

I'm waiting for good commercials
I hope some of my squares hit
I hope some of my squares hit
It will come down to two factors:

1) Can the Falcons consistently get to Brady until he gets too nervous to stand in the pocket?

2) Can the Patriots slow down the Freeman/Coleman train after selling out to stop Julio?

Whichever team gets out in front and hot first on offense will win the game. I'm not convinced that the Patriots defenders can shut down Julio, Freeman, and Coleman. In that sense, Coleman will be the determining factor. The Pats will sell out to stop Julio, and will catch Freeman often enough, but if the Falcons put Coleman out there all at the same time, then Coleman will win the game for them.

Otherwise, the Pats/Brady will win as usual.
My pick: Meteor(ite) strike.
I'm picking Falcons by about 10. So far I'm batting 1.000 in playoff predictions. A lot has been said about their 27th ranked defense. They are starting 8 players in either their 1st or 2nd year on defense and are ranked 27th overall. But they played poorly in September and October to get that ranking. The Superbowl is played in February. Atlanta's defense was the 6th BEST defense in December and January. New England isn't playing the same defense that was on the field 6 months ago.

Atlanta's offense was good on day one and has only gotten better. Their December and January performance is off the charts. They had the #1 offense while playing the toughest defensive schedule in the league.

New England has a slightly better defense, but Atlanta is used to shredding good defenses, been doing it all year. I think they will score 30. While Atlanta's defense isn't quite as good as New England I think they are good enough to hold the Brady bunch under 30.

And I'm not a New England hater. They aren't my favorite team, but I can respect greatness when I see it. If I'm wrong and Brady gets his 5th ring then good for him.

Considering their body of work, it is hard to bet against New England. The combination of Belichick and Brady is 4W-2L in Super Bowls since 2001.

I'd like to see New England win and then snub NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell by sending the equipment manager out to accept the Lombardi Trophy for the team.
I pick buffalo wings for the win
I'm for the Celtic or the Bulls.
I'm for the Celtic or the Bulls.
It is unfortunate that I will miss the game as I believe it will be one of the great ones regardless who wins.
EdM: Tape it!
I won't leak to you who wins.
I also think these two teams are evenly matched in their excellence.
I tend to root for the under-dogs in games where I do not have a favorite team playing. But I am not sure there IS an under-dog here.
That reminds me I have to go to town today and buy some Super-Bowl squares for the upcoming game.

Yes, I recall the details of the Deflate-Gate deal and that the equipment managers who handled the game balls, John Jastremski and Jim McNally, were fired by the Patriots in order to appease Roger Goodell, that's why I wrote what I wrote.
