Any thoughts?

I'm thinking Gladiator is up there.
Inglorious Basterds

Brave Heart

Turner and Hooch

Last Tempation of Christ

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Easy Rider
The Cowboys with John Wayne and that dastardly Bruce Dern.

Tom Horn, sort of.
Saving Private Ryan.

We Were Soldiers once.

Etc.....my heroes are the brave and (extra)ordinary men that made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Shootist
Valkyrie with Tom Cruise

Braveheart is another one.

Oops, I see Kingston mentioned that one.
Cool Hand Luke

Lots of movies where the protagonist dies but I don't know if you could call him the "hero". Scarface with Al Pacino is one of those.
Hombre - Paul Newman.
This doesn't quite qualify since the character who dies isn't really a hero, but in No Country for Old Men, the bad guy wins and kills the protagonist the audience would typically root for. It was a good movie IMO.

The ward supervisor nurse in "One Flew Over the Coco's Nest" same as killed the 'hero'.

John Wayne's The Cowboys
don't forget Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty at The Falls. the choreographer for that scene trained me.

That is the first movie I remember seeing that truly blew my mind and I had to watch it all over again immediately.

Which of course gave us "The Three Amigos"

.............. which was bad too.

In either case I wish they would have finished the job.

Sacrilege around here but holy cow M7 does not hold up well. Sorry. Great, stirring music going for it but I swear putting on Saturday Night Fever in its soundtracks place would make that movie a heck of a lot more enjoyable. I start rooting for the Mexicans long before Robert Vaughan bites the dust.
