Last Sunday a buddy of mine asked me how I found out about the 24 hour campfire. I told him I was surfing the web for 257 Roberts forums. And this website kept popping up. So I took a good look at the site and joined. By the way he calls this website "awesome!"

Which got me thinking.....How did you find out about this website?

AllOutdoors.com went toes-up in 1999, which lead me to shooters.com which folded tent in 2001. The shooters.com alum migrated to 24hourcampfire.com and I came with them.

Site continually came up in web searches when I was looking for info. I lurked for about a year. Then joined. Didnt post much the first few years.

This was where I pointed everyone in one of my last posts on that forlorn place. Funny, but most of them looked around and didn't stick. The main reason I will guess is that this is more of a haven for rifle loonies. There were a lot more bow hunters on D&DH.

I was a regular poster over on a Kentucky Hunting forum. Got banned because I had the audacity to post that the Black Lives Matter movement was flawed because it ignored the Black on Black murders, and I thought it was just a result of the DNA of Black people to go around killing one another. Another poster on that site then told me that the moderators were all big time Democrats, which I still can't understand why they would want to be associated with a hunting forum. He told me to try this place, as the Campfire wasn't anywhere as politically correct as most places were. He did warn me about a couple of regulars here who he said were the biggest a-holes on the internet. He was right about that, otherwise this is about best forum I've found.

Well like Al Gore invented the internet, I created this site, but being the modest guy I am I let Rick bin take all the credit. grin

But really like Shaman. when those others folded I followed others to this site that Rick created for us, and it is a good site.

Unexpectedly encountered a well-known gun writer living way out here. 'Twas obvious that he needed quite a bit of help and care, and did my best. He opined that my shooting/hunting interest would be well-served at the Campfire. That was Dr. Ken Howell.

I found it back when it ran 1X per month news print format style.....ink and paper

We would read it by candle light or kerosene lanterns.

Then we had to send in questions and replies via pen and paper. After you penned your question or responce you mailed it to Rick for .25 cents

After that it would be off to the outhouse for recycling/compost

I have been a member of multiple outdoor forums since the inception of such. A friend and I were having a couple of beers in a bar. He too is an outdoor forum user. We were discussing the anonymous bullies and a-holes that frequent forums and how they behave while protected by their anonymity. He told me that if you want to see a bunch of those that I should go to this forum. I did. This was a decade and a half ago. He was right. Luckily, those individuals, as prolific as they are here, are the exception rather than the rule.

I had come across the site, just a couple times previously while 'researching' gear. Then in 2010, I was on the hunt for a Bushnell Elite 2.5-16x scope at a certain price point and the Free Classifieds sucked me in for good. Only thing that's seemed weird are the few guys that have just absolutely freaked out and go to extreme name calling over rather trivial comments on chit like floods&waterfowl or Weaver Top-Mount rings. LOL - Whatever dudes.
