Hope he had some strength and agility
That first step is gunna really hurt.
Thank god for that safety harness, and those clean shorts in the truck!
I had a scaffold get away from me - went off the stage in an auditorium/basketball court.
Thank God I was young, strong, and agile. It took a while for my apprentice to re-assemble the works, on stage, so i could get out of the rafters - 24 feet above stage deck, IIRC.
It looks like he's tied off to the ladder.....bummer.
You're seeing the pole that holds the light that illuminate the sign.
Great story for the grandkids, I hope.
I had a brother killed falling from a ladder. Left a wife and 4yr old boy.
Thank god for that safety harness, and those clean shorts in the truck!
Got that right!
Someone is probably going to have a discussion about fall protection when he gets down.
That picture just gives me the chills
Hank
Does anyone know if this man fell or not?
The lanyard on safety harnesses is in back. Once you get hung up on one, you have to wait for help. I've never fallen when wearing one but I'm told that it'll really jar you.
when i first glanced at the title of this thread, i thought it said.... my bladder slipped.
So ? Did the dumb [bleep] carry the ladder up the ladder on the pole?? stupid is as stupid does

No, I think it would have been his bowels.

When I was 18 I coulda pulled myself up around there lickity split. Now barring a miracle I'd fall off that thing and be dead sure as the sun comes up. You couldn't pay me enough money to be put in that situation!
The problem with even a good harness is you can only hang for so long before you cut the blood flow off from your legs and permanent damage can result. Better than the fall but hang long enough you can lose one or both legs.

Newer lanyards are better at absorbing the shock load.

We all could do that when we were 18 - we were protected by the laws of young, dumb and bullet proof! Now if that were me there'd be a hole in the ground!

I hear ya, but not all. Have you looked at some 18 yr olds today? Heck 12 yr olds for that matter. About as tough as tub of marsh mellows in water.

6-8 hours with a CAT tourniquet on, I'd think at least as long in a harness
I'd bet the company.he worked for had a safety meeting even before they got him down.

A good lesson here for all the tree stand hunters too, wear those safety harnesses.
OOPS, not enough coffee yet, I'll go fix it.

No. Suspension Trauma can kick in after 20 minutes of hanging.

Yup!
That could ruin his whole day.
Do we have any details or any idea how it turned out?
Steve

This.
Sure looks to me that the guy hanging there is 2 dimensional and is part of the sign.
yep he has been hanging there for about 15 years, makes you take another look at the billboard
I pulled in there yesterday to get a sandwich. I was on the entrance ramp when I saw this billboard, I pulled over immediately. Didn't know how I could help the guy, but, damn.
Well, I got faked out. It is a plywood cutout. The cutout is hinged at the top, so that it sways in the breeze.
The breeze was blowing yesterday and the damn thing was moving! The way his leg was bent I thought a guy was hanging up there.
I had to walk around for a minute or two to see that it was a prank. A plywood cutout all painted up, plus a real aluminum ladder. This thing looks more real in person than it does in the pic.
The east Alabama guy who cooked this up is a real artist.
I guarantee there have been several 911 calls on this, especially when the wind is blowing.

Yep.
That's what I said about 30 posts ago.
