Gunner, I totally agree. I could not be a cop. If I had to arrest a child molester I'm sure he would end up shot resisting arrest. When violent criminals are convicted they should be marched out onto the courthouse lawn and hanged. No repeat offenders that way.

However, the Marshall was trying to keep the witness from harm as well and I doubt she (pretty sure the Marshall was female) could tell if he had a pen or a knife during the incident. Further, give just about anyone with malicious intent, and a minimum of knowledge of human physiology , a Bic pen and you could easily end up with a Bic pen in a carotid, throat, brain stem, etc. Deadly force was absolutely justified.

Yes, it did justify shooting him. Assault with a dangerous instrument in a U.S.District Court . The Judge probably would have shot the guy himself.
Federal Court is a whole different world when it comes to court security and what the U.S. Marshals can do.

That attack was classic prison inoculated style. Surprise attack at full speed w/ pointy object injected into victim. The bailiff interrupted appropriately w/ the required level of force preventing the injection. That cop had probably been observing the bangers demeanor for days and was beyond seeking alternative actions other than shooting the scumbag to the ground. Great job!
