Turner Classic Movies has been running his movies all day.

I had forgotten what a good actor he was.

Just watched him on "Mutiny on the Bounty," (1962) After the show they said Brando was a holy terror to work with and the film was nicknamed Mutiny on the Brando.

I saw that.

in Godfather , the scene where he uses orange peels and dies as a monster was his idea , what a brilliant man.

If you like him and Nicholson and westerns, you really need to see "The Missouri Breaks"

Missouri Breaks is OK but far from his best movie.

Apocalypse Now.

Yep, the kid was totally surprised. He was just messing with the kid on camera and they used it.

On the Waterfront was a classic.

It was not O.K. It was much better than that. Superb casting, acting and cinematography. The only weak link was the same problem with any Hollywood production, they didn’t need Kathleen Lloyd or her character in that movie. Many a good movie would have been better without a leading lady.

Nicholson was great and Brando did a good job as Clayton, but Harry Dean Stanton who is often overlooked as a character actor was outstanding. A great movie that could have been greater but for the want of a woman in a movie best left to men...

Well I for one cannot stand the POS. How he ever got into acting with that god awful voice is beyond me. I did like him in " The Godfather " though.

This one got Norm fired from Saturday Night Live.

I never much liked his work.

A great actor. Another almost unknown piece of his work is the western, The Appaloosa.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

I just happen to like his earlier movies.

Sorry for not thinking the same way you do.

Watch all 3 of The Godfather movies and you’ll see that oranges foreshadow death.

Viva Zapata. Brando always died well in many of his movies. wink

In his prime, Brando was the finest actor who ever worked in front of a camera. My opinion, of course.

according to an interview with francis ford coppola and other actors , brando came up with idea of him turning to the monster he was before death.

Can't go wrong with Brando, Gene Hackman, and Ben Johnson. Good movie!

Perhaps on the “monster” part, but you’ll see the oranges in all 3 movies.

That wasn't Gene Hackman - it was Karl Malden (of The Streets of San Francisco TV series), although Malden does look like Hackman.

If you can sit through the entirety of Godfather 111, you have a greater capacity for suffering and pain than I do.

I did 20 minutes of that dog at the theatre, walked out and my date with me.
What a bowser!

Unable to find a leading lady, Coppola cast his own daughter in the lead. Sadly, she can't act.

I tried to watch Guys and Dolls last night. I got about 10 minutes into it and couldn't take it any more.

Didn't even make it to see Sinatra.

Oh, best movie? My bad. I clearly misunderstood or misinterpreted your OP then. On the Waterfront was probably his best, purely from one person's perspective and opinion. And, as much disdain as you may have for the movie, The Missouri Breaks, his performance in it was excellent, in my opinion.
Posted By: VarmintGuy Re: Marlon Brando - 08/05/19
FiekldGrade: He (Marlon Brando) was indeed amongst the top best actors of all time!
He turned arrogant and difficult later in life - so be that.
But the fact he became a "rump Elk" later on diminishes him greatly, as a human, in my eyes.
Among others he same sex diddled was Richard Pryor!
That is sad.
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
P.S.: I loved "Missouri Breaks" - but his greatest acting role was in "The Godfather".
