Just ordered one from Collins Street Bakery, my first from them. Looking forward to see how their fruitcakes are.

Oh hell ya!
Posted By: Dess Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
Based on the picture alone, I vote yay.
Get some rum in your eggnog and it won't matter.

Good fruit cake is delicious. Bad fruit cake is horrendous. Not much middle ground.

Posted By: Cast Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
They’re great!

I like em microwaved for about 15 to 20 seconds.
Put Peanut Butter on a couple of slices.
Big glass of milk.

1 a year is the max....

Happy Holidays " Girlhunter"

Being honest saying that.

I much prefer the ones that I make.

Yeah, 1 a year is plenty here as well. Didn't get one last Christmas so I thought I'd 'splurge'.

Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.

Yay.
Posted By: Sprint11 Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
Did they ask for cake or for this abominable loaf? So not only does this thing exist, people are deprived of cake!
Posted By: Stickfight Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
I had a sample of fruitcake from that place once while traveling through Texas. I was a passenger in a Tesla and they have a supercharging station.

I was good I suppose but a little sweet for my taste. I have only my wife's Weihnachtsstollen to compare against though.

Yea

Not only no, but hell no!
Posted By: stevelyn Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
I prefer stollen bread over fruitcake.
Posted By: 280shooter Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
I like them frozen. They roll better.
Posted By: EdM Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/08/19
Nope but my Dad would eat the hell out of panettone.

I've never tasted a baked fruitcake that I really liked. Some were ok, but that's about all I could say for them.

However, unbaked fruitcake is another story. A big ol chunk of it and a cold glass of milk..... UUUMMMMMM!

I happen to like fruitcake. My sister HATES it. If I give her one for Christmas, I'm pretty sure she'll give it back. Now I know what she's gonna give me.

Y E S!!

My little German mama ( S Dakota Germans) made it every year, and it's fantastic toasted with a mound of butter slathered over it...and a 20 oz of dark beer. grin
Posted By: SockPuppet Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/09/19
I'd hit it.
Posted By: RLA Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/09/19
Yes, my wife makes great fruit cake, puts brandy in mix then pours it on top while still warm.

I like it; had some last night and I’ll have some more tonight. My wife makes fruit cake cookies too 😊

I’d rather have bourbon in my egg nog.
Posted By: RiverRider Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/09/19
Aye. It's eggnog season and I'm gonna get me some. With whiskey, to boot. The stuff fills me up and I can skip dinner to lose weight. No, really.

My sis sent me mom’s stollen recipe. I might try it this year.

I like it now, but sadly was not a fan as a lad.

YES! Soaked in booze, dipped in wax, and stored away for a few years. Sign me up.

I could just about live off of the Collins Creek variety.
Posted By: xxclaro Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/09/19
Looks pretty good, I'd try it. I'd never had fruit cake till this year, locally there isn't much available that looks good. Saw some Claxtons at a store in town, so I tried it...I was kinda disappointed, and after the first piece was gonna throw it out. Next day I took another little bite.....wasn't as bad as I thought. There was alot of raisins or something like that in it that weren't great. I took them out and it was much better. I ended up finishing the whole thing eventually, and now I'm kinda wanting another!

Fruitcake and cockroaches

Still like fruitcake heated up a little in the microwave covered in peanut butter with a glass of milk.

Roaches ........
Give em the bootheel.....

Pour brandy over the whole thing, then light it! Burns light blue for a while but infuses the whole thing with a wonderful taste.

Collin Street makes a very good fruitcake. Pricey, but very good.
Posted By: g5m Re: Yea or Nay? - 12/09/19
Enjoy!

The English probly wouldn'ta needed us in the Big War if'n they'da knowed about fruitcakes. Drop a few of them bad boys behind enemy lines and they'da been laid up for weeks. March right in there with some good laxatives and mop the place up.
