Anyone replace the barrels on their Savages with a Shaw or EABCO replacement barrel?

Good, Bad or What?

I may need a .243 and 7mmRM bbl. soon.

What say you?

I have replaced barrels on several Savages with both Shaw and EABCO barrels. All were good, the Shaw barrels were excellent.
I've used both brands, plus A&B and Shilen barrels, on Savage 110 series and Marlin X guns. They all work fine, but the Shilen is the best of the bunch. I'd also look a Savage take-offs.
Thanks for the reply Rem and Jersey---very helpful!

Used a Shilen 8 twist 22-260 last year. No complaints

I've had great luck with Criterion. Northland Shooters can hook you up with Criterion or Shilen.

I've not used an EABCO barrel yet but have had good barrels from Shaw, Criterion, Shilen and PacNor.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Shaw.

If you're swapping barrels more frequently, I'd suggest you make a wrench to fit the recoil lug.
You can tighten and loosen the barrel nut with wrenches rather than a barrel vise and a wrench.
Two lug wrenches shown in the right of the picture.

Savage has the recoil lug keyed to the receiver so it's easy to spin a barrel on or off.

Marlin recoil lugs aren't keyed so a wrench on the recoil lug won't help as much and you have to align the recoil lug when tightening..

Good info! The 7mmRM barrel nut I can use a wrench like pictured but the .243 I would need some sort of spanner wrench, I believe as there are no groves in it. I haven't taken it out of the stock in quite awhile so am not totally sure.

Savage used a smooth nut for a while which didn't make the rifle more elegant but it did make it harder to swap barrels..

I'll rummage and see if I still have a wrench to send to you, I may have a spare nut for the barrel as well.

Savage has used two different barrel shank diameters so you'll need to confirm which you've got before you order a replacement barrel!

I'll PM about the wrench and nut.
Yes, have an EABCO .243 varmint barrel. Very accurate, doesn’t copper up bad. Well made barrel for the price in my opinion, sample of one.
Thanks for the info guys!

If I do it it will be sometime in the spring at the earliest. The .243 still shoots 85gr, Sierras and 87 gr, Hornadys really well but my 70 gr. load is shooting well over an inch will the 85-87's will do half that. I can't seat the 70s out far enough.

Thanks again!

Midwayusa has had Shaw barrels with wrenches as a kit. Smooth nuts used a piece of copper to grip the nut.
