Located a rifle today that I believe is a sporterized Swedish Mod. 38. None of the receiver markings are evident as they've been covered by scope mounts. The barrel is "steppd" and Mod. 38 is stamped on the receiver- but the bolt resembles that of a 98k - I know there were a lot of different mausers made through out the world. Kind of unfair not have a photo for you to ID. It looks to be a nice piece- good stock- timney trigger. Could the bolt be some type of after market modification? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions- Hal

Does the action cock on opening or closing?

If it cocks on opening, then it is probably some type of 98 instead of a Swedish.

What's the caliber?

The 38 had a turned down bolt, like the 98.

Alkristin- No caliber was stamped on either the barrel or receiver. Yeah, the mystery deepens. The barrel appears to be that of a swede- stepped, but the bolt is that of a 98k- no cocking piece, two position saftey. Bolt is bent. Hal
