Located a rifle today that I believe is a sporterized Swedish Mod. 38. None of the receiver markings are evident as they've been covered by scope mounts. The barrel is "steppd" and Mod. 38 is stamped on the receiver- but the bolt resembles that of a 98k - I know there were a lot of different mausers made through out the world. Kind of unfair not have a photo for you to ID. It looks to be a nice piece- good stock- timney trigger. Could the bolt be some type of after market modification? Does the action cock on opening or closing?

If it cocks on opening, then it is probably some type of 98 instead of a Swedish.

What's the caliber?

The 38 had a turned down bolt, like the 98.

Alkristin- No caliber was stamped on either the barrel or receiver. Yeah, the mystery deepens. The barrel appears to be that of a swede- stepped, but the bolt is that of a 98k- no cocking piece, two position saftey. Bolt is bent. Hal
