Is anyone making Rigby type peeps for bolt actions rifles. I am speaking of the rear peep that fits on the cocking piece of a Mauser.

Searched backwards on the last photo and got this-

That sight is half way down the page and there is contact info at the top. Hope that helps.
You might call New England Custom Guns, IIRC they may be able to order these.

There is a pic of the sight installed on a rifle on this page. http://www.golmatic.de/Waffen_EN/buechsenmacherbedarf_en/system_en.htm Look at the 50 pics of Mauser porn starting with this one http://www.golmatic.de/Waffen_EN/jagdwaffen_en/galerie_en/bild_11.htm

You might check out Robert Zimmerman, at [email protected]

He makes them in small batches as needed and they are beautifully made. I have one on my 7x57 and love it.

VonGruff, did you have the sear v-notched to aid shot-to-shot alignment? I too am planning on using one (a home-built version) for the Mauser project I'm doing, and I'm wondering if that step is totally necessary. I'm aware that custom gun builders in the era when cocking piece sights were mildly popular did that trick.

It was often done but I found that repeatable accuracy made it unnessary. While it is used for hunting the results so far have been good. I have a QD scope in my day pack should there be a shot long enough that I may be uncomfortable with the aperture. Hasn't happened yet but am prepared. For studied shots, making sure the bolt is fully turned down with the same feel each time gives good results. For hurried shots the target is obviously closer and if there is a little "bounce back" of on bolt closing, the difference in POI is so slight as to make no difference. I built my 7x57 on an almost unused 1908 DWM action, and it's tightness helps a lot. You may notice how low mine sits on the bolt head. Instead of dovetailing it to the cocking piece I had a sleave made with an off set so we could sit it as low as possible for a reasonable low sighting of the scope. It is set so that the straight bolt handle and the aperture with the stem down, just has clearance under the scope.

Thanks VonGruff. I like the idea re: lowering the sight heighth. To be honest, I hadn't considered that. I have a Griffin&Howe QD sidemount for the rifle, so I now have to compute whether there'll be interference between the two when they're both on the gun. Like you, the scope will be carried seperate from the gun (method used with my current Mauser).

I figure windage can be dealt with by moving the sight slightly in it's dovetail in addition to drifting the front sight.

I believe NECG...New England Custom Gun....sells a peep like that.

Thanks all, for the links and the beautiful photos. I want to build a classic iron sighted rifle, probably in 275 Rigby.

I am thinking of using a Freischtz Classic, Mauser action and double set trigger for a early 20th century style sporter.
there is some guy in South Africa making them..I had a PH friend of mine pick me up a half dozen of them about two years ago..I sold them all before I could get one mounted...Can't remember the guys name, but someone on here might recall his name.
