I was always under the impression that a model 7 stock can not fit a standard 700 sa. Remington even backed that up saying, Nope it wont work.

Yet, McMillan builds a M7 stock that is said to be an exact copy of the factory original but it also fits the rem 600, 660, 40x and 700 sa.

Aside from MCM quality and $400-$500 more then a factory stock, what is the factory hangup that wont allow it to work on a 700 sa?

Thanks Guys,

inf,
You are lucky, it doesn't work for me.

isn't it all in the inletting? a McM model 7 stock can be inlet for a model 700sa, but there is no way a model 7 factory stock would fit on a 700 or vice versa.

McMillan isn't adapting a stock that is already inletted.

Not sure what I'm missing with the original post and Butch's but McMillan inlets for the action as mentioned, not trying to adapt an already inlet stock for one action to another.

Confusion resolved, Thanks. I talked to MCM and it's the model 7 stock that they build to the factory original dimensions that is then inletted to the 700 action, hardware, barrel and so forth. That makes sense.
