has anyone found a good way to install a recoil pad like a pachmayer decelerator pad on a hollow synthetic stock? i notice that many pads for these guns have a recess on the front of the pad where it goes into the hollow synthetic stock. is there a better way to put a flat pad like the pachmayer on these stocks besides glueing in a wood block and using that block to hold the pad screws in? the thin edge alone of a hollow synthetic stock seems not to offer any possibilities for attachment otherwise. I cut a piece of 3/4 inch pine to fit the inside of the hollow stock. Accraglass it in place, sand it flat and attach the pad to the wood insert.
My Savage 116 has the hollow stock with a piece of styrofoam in it. I mixed up some Marine-tex and filled in the end with that. Pachmayer pad is screwed into that, solid as a rock.
Pachmayr makes pads to fit some synthetic stocks. it may be worth while to check it out.

Thats what I did on the wife's hollow Savage stock. Zero issues a couple years down the road.

thank you all for the info. i will try the pre fit pad first if the customer's neck and arms will allow it. if not, it is back to wood block and glue. appreciate your time and response!
For a really professional job get a couple of pieces of aluminum approximately one inch diameter and 3/4 inches long. Drill and tap them 10-32tpi. Coat the back of the pad and screws with johnson paste wax. Screw the aluminum to the pad. Turn the stock vertical, place a generous amount of gel epoxy or devcon around the aluminum and set the assembly in place on the buttstock. I usually tape it in place so it will be accurately centered. Clean up any epoxy that may ooz out.
Grind the pad to fit. Now you have a good strong anchor for your screws and it will withstand repeated use for changing pads of various thickness.
I've seen the same done using t-nuts with the flange toward the muzzle.

I've used this before on my Ruger 338 and the Skeleton stock and it's worked fine. I added epoxy just to make sure.
