Standard Action to 375H&H Length

Celt,I'm another unfortunate left-handed shooter who like rifles in stainless steel (I live in S.E. Alaska). As you know, there are very few lefty, stainless, Winchester M70 Classic rifles out there chambered in 375H&H. I was wondering what your take is on rechambering a standard length action (like 7mm Rem or 300 Win Mag) to 375H&H? I realize that the 'smith may need to remove some metal from the rear bridge (please forgive my lack of proper nomenclature), and rework or replace various parts.There is talk about the really new M70's being different than the older Classic actions. I have not seen the new ones myself. My rifle, which is a lefty, Classic, stainless, was a 300 Win Mag, it has three action screws, and a seperate floor plate hinge held on by the front screw. Would one type be better than the other to rework? I'm sure I'm missing some of the finer points here, I'd appreciate some input! [Linked Image]

BW,The difference is that the bolt stop and ejector on a 7mm Rem (and 270) is right for the 375.Previously M70s had a magazine block and the bolt stopped at that distance. The block now tapers at the top to meet the rear of the magazine box and the bolt stop has the bolt stop at the rear of the magazine box.As to the rear receiver ring this is more of a problem with CRF than push feed. The reason being that push feed would eject the case as soon as it was clear. With CRF, ejection does not take place until the bolt is all the way back. in the past with oush feeds, the ejection problem waas with loaded rounds or misfires.Mike

Brian, get your hands on a new Classic M70. Plenty of room for the 375 in the magazine, just do a bit of milling on the ejection port. BTW, the Classic M70 would be my choice for the 416 Howell. I have two new Classic M70's in the shop for rebarreling, nice actions.
