Good evening. I have a nice Sako AV in 30-06 that I am considering doing a complete overhaul. Needing some photos of others who have done the same to give me ideas for my build. Looking to build a good light/ mid weight hunting rifle.

Basic question around accuracy of Sako Custom Rifles? How do they shoot? Only ever dealt with Remington and Winchester Customs.

My idea is
Mcmillan Edge Sako Hunter Stock
Good #3 contour barrel - possibly skip fluted
Caliber 338-06, 7x57 or 30-06 AI

Thanks!

Most likely will shoot as good or better than the others with the stock barrel. Not as many folks doing work on the Sako's. It will probably cost more in the long run than the others you mentioned.
I have a 257 wby built on a sako action, believe its an AV.
It has a Mcmillan sako hunter stock, shilen stainless barrel, and the action is blued matt black.
Its a very accurate rifle.
No reason to think it won't shoot as well as most other customs. (more to do with the smith than most other things) I think the only additional cost would be the action to start with, a relatively small percentage of the total cost.
How well does it shoot with the current barrel and what are you hoping to gain by doing a bunch of work? (improved accuracy, weight loss, different/not factory chambering, etc.) Only a question of being clear on what you want to gain versus what you can likely achieve.
I do love those A series Sakos.
I have one of the Sako Mt. Eagle rifles and the only thing I don't like about it is there is nothing that needs changing. It is on the heavy side but that makes shooting the .300 Win. easy.

With a Krieger barrel I will probably never know how accurate it is as the rifle shoots better than I can.

The AV action is one of the smoother ones made and if I hadn't subscribed to the controlled round thinking I would want several more of them.
Sami AV threads are close enough to 16tpi that most smiths use 16tpi so any smith should accept the job at no extra expense.
Have any if you ever jeweled the action on a Sako? I have never shot this rifle, but I'm sure it shoots fine as it sits. I really love the Sako actions and would like to make this one a custom. Will post some pictures.
