Last month I asked for advice on how to "de-gloss" a shiney stock. I received A lot of good ideas and good advice, but none gave me the look that I was going for.
Then today on a whim, I found a household product that I thought I would give a try.
The product is Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Doesn't look like much, just a piece of soft white foam. I followed the instructions which are pretty simple, wet the eraser and rub on surface.
Didn't look like it was doing much, until I wiped away the water on the surface of the stock.
I could not believe my eyes, it literally wiped the gloss right off of my stock.
I was left with a beautiful satiny, almost matte finish! No scratches, no clouding, just a very warm looking piece of wood
This eraser really is magic, thank you Mr. Clean!
I will get one tomorrow and see what it does... Sounds like a very interesting find! Thanks!
I've used that same product on the crappy finish that Remington puts of the blued SPS. Be prepared to use a couple. It removes a lot of the rust and oils you cannot see.
It's an amazing product.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting that..
I told my broker to move my money into Mr. Clean, now that word about this is out on the Campfire! grin
Thanks for the tip! Might have to steal one from the kitchen and try it out!
I checked several stores around here and the rush has already begun; it's gone from the local shelves. Better get it while you can. We've all seen how bad the rimfire cartridge shortage has been! grin
That is a good tip! Thanks for posting that
You should see what it does to a bowling ball!
Changes the spin too!
I set in my front yard and do mine in the sunlight, funny when the neighbor lady comes by and ask to see my balls when I'm finished...
Haters gonna hate
Betcha that could get published in the gunsmith kinks..
So did anyone else after the OP give one of these a try? Any further experiences on how well they work compared to pumice & rottenstone etc?
Cleaned up some ring marks on matte finished scopes. They were the kinds or rub marks that tend to look a bit shiny compared to the rest of the scope.
