It's in a 300sav and the rifle is in really good shape for it's age but needs an extractor. I bought it from a friend knowing this was going to have to be fixed. Problem is we are limited on gunsmith's around here. I did take it to 1 that had it for quite some time but couldn't get anything to work right. Is there any smith's ya may know that I could contact and maybe send them the bolt for repair of an extractor that can't be found. I wouldn't have bought the rifle but my friend was in more need of funds than the gun.

Send me the bolt, I will put in a Sako extractor.

Unfortunately the size extractor you're looking for is very difficult to find. The 222 and the mag extractors are available if you look hard enough.
At one time Remington modified the 722 and the 721 bolts so that the 700 extractors worked. I'm not sure if they still do that -- it was expensive.
There are people that think Sako extractors are better. I believe they are somewhere between fools and idiots, perhaps morons. But having a gunsmith convert it to a Sako extractor may be your best option.

That's a great offer by Jkob!

Bear Creek guns up in Washington was modifying the bolts for 700 extractors as of last year. But he was talking retirement. Might be worth a call if you're so inclined to stay more traditional than the sake style. Good luck!

Don't get to brag too often but I have one of each and maybe two of the .473 extractors. Locating them for the photo op so far unsuccessful, locked up somewhere special IIRC.

Hell if I'm parting with them!

Can't believe someone has not built the dies or whatever is needed to punch these out and offered them for 75 bucks a pop...

I have these, but at least I don't have a bunch of 22LR ammo!

Better put insurance on them just because.

Sorry, really feeling bad about busting your chops on this. I have a 722 and a 721 so pretty firm on keeping them locked up wherever they are. My 722 300 Savage is a hell of a shooter and at the very top of my do not part with list. The pic is from last time I dug them out. A few years ago, I was offered 17 of them and took 'em. I spread the wealth around, some I think I sold way too low. Some around here, some on Gunbroker. Basically ended up with the 3 or 4 I kept for gratis. Should've just kept them all but I was underemployed.... I know a few went to guys that wanted a spare, not in current need.

How the hell hard would it be to make them? I think not at all. Six bends, two holes and a lip?

Can't say there wouldn't be a demand for them. No clue as to why remington hasn't stepped up to do this.

If you really want to go for broke, one is on Gunbroker right now - ends the 26th. I've run it up all I care to but still got outbid at $96. I'd say other bidder is in same boat as you.... But a bid of $150 during last 20 minutes might work. To be clear, it's not my auction. It was at $40ish....

Maybe I missed it, is yours busted or just not working? Have pulled them to clean with success before.

Wonder how many times that has actually occurred, out of the millions of 700s produced? Thanks for the input, always a pleasure. Merry Christmas.

When I shot my 40X in competition my score was very important to me. I did well.

The Remington 40X in 6mm Rem. International never failed me. It was shot and loaded slow fire and the load was not hot. Iron sights were required at 200 yds.

I shot the 75 gr Sierra over 3031. Here is a picture of one of my 40X's.

There isn't one in it at all, must have fallen out somewhere when previous owner had it.

The one on Gunbroker went for only $100.99. Luckily I spaced it off and didn't try to get it.
