I have a SS .222 22" heavy barrel I would like to have fluted to shave off some weight. Is it feasible to flute a barrel after it's been threaded, chambered, and crowned?

Thanks

Many forum pages have been filled with opinions on this very subject but yes, it can be fluted.

Any idea of the cost? My old gunsmith has all but retired and I would like a ballpark figure
I've had this barrel for 15 years and it still shoots damned good. I can't bring myself to sell it, unless I can get a good price for it. LOL

Thanks

About $130 from Kampfeld's price list.

Send it to Karl Feldkamp, he's the best in the business.

Keep in mind that fluting may ruin the accuracy

"Keep in mind that fluting may ruin the accuracy"
And then again, it may not.

Before you decide, know that there is not that much weight removed, ounces maybe. $165 here

I've decided to forego the fluting and put the money toward a good trigger. I think it would be money better spent.

I like that plan too. I'd look for another way to get a lighter rifle.
