First. I want to re barrel a rifle to 25/06, does the rifle just need to be a long action? I might be able to get my hands on a 7 mag to do this but will the bolt make a difference?

Second. I need a after market barrel but don't want to break the bank. What makes should I be looking at?

Thanks,
Ken

Yes, you will need a long action. Yes the bolt will make a difference. The magnum bolt face is to large. You will want an action for one of the 06 rounds. 25/06, 270, 280 or 30/06.

Why go though all the trouble and expense just to put a cheap barrel on it. If your going to do it, then do it right, there is not that much of a price difference. Take a look at Benchmark, Lilja, Shilen or Kriger.

Find an action and send it to IT&D for one of their Douglas barrels. I believe they start at $185. But if you buy an action for $350 and pay them to rebarrel at $450...you'll have $800 minimum in it. Might as well buy you a Tikka, Howa, Remington for $550-$600. powdr
Already have a tikka howa and remington

Then if you've got a long action w/308 bolt face I'd still send it to IT&D. Good work and they will save you a few pennies. powdr
