Will bedding material stick to a rifle stock made from polycarbonate?

Thanks

Yes. Scuff it, score it, and clean it with alcohol. Devcon Plastic Steel clings like hell or use another product that specifically says bonds to plastics. Devcon and Kiwi neutral shoe polish as a release agent work well together.

There are many kinds of plastics and trying is the sure method of knowing. Some types reportedly sweat (expel) remnant release agent when heated and may be something to consider. Years ago did a bunch of gluing and learned drilling some small holes for the epoxy to go back in to will help make a strong connection. That 3M stuff 25 years later is holding up just fine. You could glue on a buttpad (albeit this was with walnut or laminates stocks) and then, once cured, slam it down on a concrete floor, the joint was the strongest part of the whole and, as I recall, we were not wiping with a solvent...

Lexan (polycarbonate),is one of the harder plastics to glue. They do make special bonding agents for it. I'd sure get some .scrap pieces and test it first before trying it on a stock

Polycarbonate is not very chemically resistant. Some chemicals will destroy it. One of them is Loctite.

By the way, what's the manufacture of your stock?

Normally there is a pre bond chemical that changes the surface of the polycarbonate and then the glue that is used will adhere to that surface.

Polycarbonate is just about the worst material you could build a hunting rifle stock from. It cold flows. And it is very noisy. Doesn't hold screws well. Scratches extremely easily. Transfers vibrations.
